We recently connected with Starla Frequency and have shared our conversation below.
Starla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
Before any sound bath experience starts, I like to remind guests that there’s no “right” way to experience a sound bath. Every journey is unique, and the best thing you can do is show up with an open mind and a little curiosity. Some people feel deeply relaxed, others get emotional, and sometimes, you feel like your mind won’t stop racing… and that’s all okay. Whatever comes up for you is valid, and nothing needs to be fixed, judged, or corrected.
The invitation is to greet your experience with compassion, and treat yourself as you would a dear friend. If your thoughts wander, let them. If you get fidgety, no worries. There’s no test here and no one you have to impress— just time to soften, to notice, and to be present with yourself.
A sound bath is your space to simply be with no pressure, no expectations, and nothing to do but lie back and allow it to wash over you. See where the sound takes you, and appreciate that whatever you get from the experience is exactly what you need in that moment.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I offer relaxing and transformational sound bath experiences using crystal bowls, a variety of drums, gong, my voice, and other instruments. You can book me for private sound baths—whether for individuals, couples, or group events—and I also host public sessions throughout Los Angeles and beyond. My offerings are available for private gatherings, corporate wellness events, and special occasions like birthdays, retreats, or bachelorette parties.
I first discovered sound baths in 2015, and they quickly became a meaningful part of my own healing journey. In 2019, I experienced a powerful energy healing that felt like fire in my arms and hands. When I came back into awareness, I knew I was meant to work with my hands in a way that supported others. Over time, I realized that sound was the path.
During the pandemic, I dove deeper, studying the roots of sound healing and experimenting with crystal bowls and other instruments. What began as something I offered to friends and family soon evolved into a full-fledged practice. Since then, I’ve facilitated sound baths at corporate events and co-working spaces, music festivals in the desert, yoga studios, the beach, the woods—you name it.
For many people, attending one of my sound baths is their first experience with this kind of work. I take time at the beginning to gently guide them into the space, often with a visualization, and help them understand what to expect. I love aligning sessions with the seasons or astrological shifts, especially Mercury retrograde, when everything feels a little more intense! My background in creative industries means I often work with artists, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs—people who are drawn to sound baths as a way to reset, ground, and reconnect with their creative energy.
While we do use the term “sound healing” I think of my role less as a “healer” and more as a facilitator whose responsibility is to create a safe, welcoming environment where people can simply be. I’ve had guests share that they’ve released emotional or physical pain during a session, while others simply report feeling refreshed and relaxed. Whatever a guest experiences, I feel very grateful and lucky to serve as a guide for their journey.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Sound baths have been an incredible teacher for me!
In addition to my work as a sound bath facilitator, I run another small business where I produce and direct video content for brands. I’ve had that business for a long time, and I came into it as a big believer in the whole “hustle and grind” culture. I built that business through a lot of blood, sweat, and tears; and constant pushing hard to get results. While I achieved success, it took a massive toll on my physical and mental health, and some of my important relationships.
I knew I wanted to take a different approach when I started Starla Frequency Sound Healing, and luckily sound baths are about the opposite of hustling and grinding. Sound baths have taught me so much about the value of slowing down and being present, something that I struggled with in my life in the past.
They’ve also helped me gently work through my “perfectionist” tendencies, and accept things as they are. For example, I facilitate a lot of sound baths in Los Angeles and it’s a noisy city. At first, I experienced a lot of stress around wanting to make everything perfectly quiet, but soon enough I realized that it was never going to happen. Much like I tell my guests to embrace whatever happens for them with an open mind, I now welcome the unexpected songs of the city into my sound baths, and invite my guests to practice tuning out the noise and turning more deeply inward.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe that to truly support others in healing, releasing, and reconnecting with themselves, you need to show up in full integrity, and that starts with taking care of your own well-being.
Many of us have experienced attending a wellness session where something just felt… off. Maybe the facilitator seemed distracted or more focused on promoting their services than being fully present. Especially if you’re seeking support during a vulnerable moment, that kind of energy can feel disorienting or even harmful.
That’s why I make my own wellness a priority. I regularly attend sound baths, practice yoga and meditation, and engage in other rituals that keep me grounded and aligned. These practices enable me to show up fully, stay centered, and create space for others in a way that I hope feels authentic and deeply supportive. I can’t say whether that leads to more “success” by the traditional metrics, but I believe that it’s vital for facilitators and wellness professionals who want to ensure they offer their clients and guests the very best support possible.
