We were lucky to catch up with Staria Harvey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Staria, thanks for joining us today. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
My most valuable investment has been the time, money, and energy I committed to developing myself and my business. Exactly a year ago, on June 9th, 2023, I took the leap of faith and left my corporate job, feeling nervous but hopeful. Despite learning a great deal and gaining insight into professionalism and excellent customer service, I knew I wanted more. I believed in my talents and desired to pursue my passion as a nail artist. With encouragement and positive affirmations from others, I became convinced that I was making the right choice for my life. I learned valuable lessons along the way: patience, diligence, authenticity, and resilience.

Staria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into the beauty industry started in 2001, my junior year at Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School. As a junior, I was offered an opportunity to attend Crockett Vocational Center and enroll in their manicuring program. Upon completing the course, I encountered my first hurdle: I didn’t pass the State Board Exam. However, that didn’t stop me from wanting to continue pursuing my passion and education in the world of beauty. Years later, I moved to Greensboro, NC, and enrolled in Carolina Beauty College’s cosmetology program. After enduring the intricate course of studies, I obtained my cosmetology license from the State of NC a year later. At that moment, I knew I was destined for greatness and that God called me to bless others with my gifts.
I provide gel manicures, artificial nail enhancements, freehand nail art, and children’s nail services. As a small business owner, I offer skin care products, a hand-crafted cuticle rejuvenation oil. My oil softens and provides nourishment to the cuticle. Within my company, I also started “Twink’s Young Girls Club, ” a non-profit platform allowing girls to participate in various art/beauty events. These events are geared towards self-awareness and empowerment, allowing the girls to show off their creative side and engage with other young ladies.
I consider myself a seasoned veteran in the beauty field with over 20+ years of experience. Making people feel good and helping with self-confidence has always been my passion and purpose. I am a Nail Artist whose main goal is to exude professionalism at all times, perform quality services, and create an unforgettable experience for my clients.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the happiness and joy my nail art/services bring to every client. Being able to uplift and empower women through the art of beauty is the main goal. I always tell my clients “Add Color to Your Life” and ” Live, Laugh, Create”

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
A major goal that is driving my creative journey is to one day open up a nail/art school. I want to create a space that allows women to gain knowledge on nail structure, nail enhancements, nail art, and much more. In my junior year of high school, I attended a vocational school that allowed me to tap into my passion at an early age. I want to award those same opportunities to other like-minded individuals. Knowing that I can beautify someone’s life brings me a sense of purpose.
