Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Star Trauth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Star, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I went through hell(my doctor said so) and I’m alive. I was unlucky enough to have a cancer. I was bed ridden, too weak to create much of anything but I still had ideas firing in my brain. The only thing I had an abundance of were medications, 21 bottles of pills and a myriad of creams, ointments, and powders.
In my frustration I dumped a bunch of those pills out they were pretty, I snapped a pic. The meds I was to discontinue got their farewell by being crushed, I took a pic. I liked it, it made me feel like something other than a patient. I spelled out symptoms with their corresponding pills, sometimes taking hours more pictures.
I had wanted to be one of those cool artists that did photo diaries or Vlogs of the whole illness. I was far too out of it, between the pain and the meds, to even think about doing something like that. With help, I began digitally manipulating them to make them more colorful and textural, it gave me hope amidst the mess.
I was hurting and it helped. Aren’t we all hurting? Each person has their own mess to deal with. Many stop to take a picture of something that causes a stir in them. I want to share what gave me hope through the web of treatments, trauma, and a myriad of medication.

Star, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Star Trauth is an award-winning artist and writer. She received her degree in Fine Art(Mt St Joseph University, Ohio, USA) and continues to study related to her field.
Her practice seeks to attract the audience visually with a desire for tactile engagement. She’s sought to create new art mediums with environmentalism in mind, using waste paper and plastic, and converting it to a flat pliable textile. Star hand molds and flame sculpts each piece, miniature original works in their own right, then melds them as free-standing sculpture, assemblage, or wall hanging. Though she has created her own medium Trauth will use other forms of traditional media to achieve her vision. Her work is heavily inspired by music, experiences from her adventurous life, and currently a fierce battle with cancer. This has also led her to dabble in new media while she regains her strength.
Selected solo exhibitions include ‘Art Deco Weekend’ Life is Art, Miami, Florida(2015); ‘Sublimate: Totems, Tokens, and Lore’ Vargas Gallery, Pembroke Pines, Florida(2018); ‘Star Trauth: A Solo Show’ Worldwide Art Movement Gallery, Kochi, India(2020),

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My upbringing was nomadic and free-spirited. There weren’t many expectations placed on me so I wandered. It has been both freeing and taxing to have no boundaries. My journey has been rich, varied, and painful at times. I have amassed a vast tapestry of memories, experiences, joys, and scars. With these mounting stories I decided to author my own expectations for a lasting purpose. I wanted the beautiful and the broken to mean something.
This decision led me to create each thought into being, to materialize intangible and ephemeral experiences into art and leave a bit of myself everywhere.
The constant thread through my body of work is legacy. When I became a mother I noticed how she watched me as others had done in the past. Unlike previous times, I wanted to live up to my daughter’s gaze. It is a big responsibility, one which I hope to fulfill. I want to pass on wisdom, gratitude, joy, and beauty through my art and my actions.
This year was particularly difficult because I had to create in a new way. I hope I rose to the challenge in creating work that caused the viewer pause and asked thought-provoking questions.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I create my art to be textural and tactile. I want to create a conversation with the viewer. I have not yet figured out how NFTs fit in to my narrative.
