We recently connected with Star Stewart and have shared our conversation below.
Star, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
What is success
It looks different for everyone simply because we’re created in one image but we’re all different rather it be our ethnic backgrounds or culture. What that I tells is what success looks like to you very well may be different for me!
I believe before an individual can define success for themselves, you should make a list of what success looks like to you. Then, follow up with actionable steps you can take to achieve that success.
There is no right or wrong way to be successful, however I believe that there are steps you can take to become more successful based on your definition of the goal.
Be committed, never become unteachable, always keeping in mind what the goal is. I believe it is important to have perspective, invest in yourself/ business and what you believe in. Keep planning and lastly remember to have FUN along the way!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Star Stewart and I am a native of Memphis, TN. I am a mother of one son (Jackson) and the daughter of the late Cornelius Stewart Sr. and Ruthie. I am the living oldest of six and like most southerners I grew up in church by way of my grandparents the late Lonnie and Alice Stewart. I believe that the foundation was set for me many years ago and it is what I stand on in my adult life. I remember as a child I thought my dad was the meanest. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I was fully able to grasp his hard parenting and have an understanding of they way he loved us.
With and extensive background in healthcare within corporate America. Ive been blessed with countless opportunities that add value to my resume. I am an honors graduate of Bethel University with My B.S in Healthcare Administration. Currently pursuing my Master’s with Strayer University.
In 2020 when the world was hit with Covid like millions of people my job was phased out. Although I was worried God quickly reminded me of his promises as well as the gift of my hands. I’ve always been crafty and enjoyed decorating but never imagined how the love of my craft would shift my life.
StarCreations was founded on faith without knowing how far it would go. My love for balloons and my attention to detail has landed me opportunities all around the Mid-South and has exceeded all the way to the state of GA.
I’ve had the opportunity to service MSCS, seven divisions within the City of Memphis, FedEx Corporate Services, Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare, countless church organizations, Celebrity Artist NLE Choppa and Former NBA player of the Memphis Grizzles Zach Randolph with a host of private clients.
Although I love doing full setups I am sought after for my glossy clusters of balloons, my professionalism and my drive to give 110%. Every time I’m referred I believe my HEART SMILES! I’m always reminded of my father saying “Be kind, and remember people do not have to be nice”. I’ve made connections in the industry with people that I’m forever grateful for. I’ve learned, I’ve grown in my craft, I’ve grown as a person. Learning the business and being committed, and always being open to learning more and it sharing with the world is my goal.
I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading and shopping. I love fine dining and my favorite food is STEAK and SEAFOOD! My dream travel destination is Paris and I plan on going really soon! I love watching TV and most times when I’m not working you can find me balled up on the couch binge watching a show. Fall is my favorite season and Christmas is my favorite holiday!
Here’s a nugget: What people don’t know about me is although I love StarCreations I love corporate America also and wouldn’t mind going back full time. No worries StarCreations isn’t going anywhere.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for me gaining new clients and maintaining the client base that I have. It all boils down for me personally word of mouth and social media platforms.
I’m always tagged in a post or my business number is being passed around. And I’m not complaining!
I was once told that “my name was being spoken in rooms that I haven’t walked in”.
That alone is a reminder of God’s PROMISES!!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, I’ve read books one of my favorites is:
Heart and Hustle by Patricia Bright and I’ve taken a couple of sessions for entrepreneurship.
I also have a mentor that helps me with the financial side and just overall the betterment of my business and how it flows.
