Star, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

My mission and purpose for TMT was to inspire success and transform one life at a time. Something I learned as a correctional officer. There were enough scammers in the world and in the financial industry, I built my brand off of trust and transparency. Under promising and over delivering.

Star, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Ericka, publicly known as Star Ericka. I started The Millionaire Table back in 2019 after educating myself on financial literacy, credit, and business. It was initially suppose to be multiple businesses coming together but that idea never went anywhere. I had 14 collections, 3 repossessions and always denied for anything I wanted. Once I started repairing my credit and getting approvals, I was able to get my first home, my dream cars, more capital to invest in my businesses and felt amazing. I was in corrections and our mission was Inspiring success by transforming one life at a time. That mission statement is the only company mission statement I know but it inspired me to be the change i want to see, be the catalyst, be the leader that leads by example and inspire others to do the same. I was doing this everyday behind the gate, and I felt that what would be better than to transform lives than to actually help and educate others on financial literacy. I realize people dont lack funds, they lack knowledge and resources. I knew this, my mission and purpose and built a brand off of trust and transparency.

Have you ever had to pivot?

In April 2022, I got married and pregnant with my son. I suffered from HG, polyhydramnios, anemia and a few others. I was gravely ill up until the day I had our son. I could barely function or market my business, some days I could barely lift my head. By November that year, we loss our son to stillbirth and I almost loss my life as well. Through that year I learned how fast things could change. I went from 5 figure months down to 4. I had to cut costs, reevaluate my business, manage my money, rely on credit and so much more to keep business afloat and my team paid. Thank God that I knew how to pivot. By 2023 I couldn’t get back to work I had to heal, so I learned how to rely on the team I built to run my business while I took time to reinvent myself. Life is so much better now, business is so much better now. I realized my money management skills and God is all I had to maintain. I started a podcast called Suddenly Still Podcast in my son’s honor where I discuss how to navigate life’s challenges. It’s not about stillbirth or grief, its about navigating the hard times. Who do you know can take 2 years off a business that was only 2 years old at the time and still stand? May 2024 makes 4 official years since I quit my government job to join this industry and Im grateful.

Any advice for managing a team?

Take care of those that take care of you! Your team can be your closest friends or worst enemies. I always vowed to be the employee that I would wanna hire when I was working corporate america so I feel blessed to have an amazing team. Small, but mighty! I throw bonuses here and there, treat them like family, give constructive criticism but also commend them often for their hard work. I don’t only focus on what they do wrong but constantly remind them of how grateful I am for their every day efforts. Therefore, when I do have to correct them I do so with respect and dignity. They recieve it better because it’s rare for me to have to correct them on anything. My team is so near and dear to me, they’re so understanding, they went through every high and low, when I could barely give hours and times where I loaded them down, they never complain. Im truly blessed, I prayed for them!
