We were lucky to catch up with Stamaur Mitchell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Stamaur thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The VERY 1st time I ever got paid to do what I do was in 2016. I had gotten paid $150 to host a hole in the wall type of club. At that time, I had never done that before, so I was pretty excited. Me and all my friends pulled up expecting the greatest hosting services, but unfortunately, that ain’t how it went lol. They just ended up giving up a tiny ass section with a bottle of house vodka. Damn near broke my heart lol.
Stamaur , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started doing comedy about 9 years ago. I was seeing a lot of ppl from the DMV use this app called Vine ( which was hilarious by the way ). So I thought to myself like, I’m sure I can do this too. I started doing it consistently and then next thing I know, I decided to hop on stage and REALLY test my funny. I think what’s separates me from a lot of others is that I really understand being funny. Not forcing things, but naturally bringing laughter to a crowd. I even find myself laughing at my own shenanigans lol.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I feel like just seeing the excitement on people’s faces. Being able to change a persons mood from bad, to great with just my words. I love having that ability.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I honestly started by posting EVERY single day. This was back when you couldn’t even post videos on Instagram. I was just using Vine and Twitter. But the main thing was staying consistent and being original. With those 2, you can’t lose!
