We recently connected with Stacy Yip and have shared our conversation below.
Stacy, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
I have had a lot of fitness clients during my almost 10 year career, I would say the most important advice I give about health and fitness is that we need to adjust our goals to where we are at today and not our ideal that is unreachable.
I am obsessed with testing out goals and seeing what works and adapting again when they don’t work. It is important to not be so critical of ourselves and enjoy the process and lifestyle of being healthy. If we can make health and fitness fun for ourselves, and the environment natural and easy to do, we can keep the habits for the long term instead of short term.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have been a fitness professional since 2014, I use to work at a women’s gym in Southern California before I started my own business during the pandemic in 2020. I went from working alone to having 2 instructors and an assistant helping me teach live Zoom Group Fitness Classes online to women all over the US and Canada.
What makes us unique is that we include in our membership weekly one on one health meetings to check in with our clients on their personalized health homework. This method helps us support clients to reach their ever changing health goals such as sleep, water, cardio, weight training, and nutrition. Each week we inch our client up to their best health.
I have tried many gym memberships and have had many personal trainers, I believe I have created a special and affordable program to change women’s lives.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I recently became a new mom on November 2, 2022. I have had a lot of clients who are mothers, but now that I am a mom, I have a new respect of the hard work it takes to be a parent.
I have had very little sleep since becoming a mom. I am unable to do work more than a few minutes here and there during the day between feedings and diaper changes, but to keep my business afloat, I must manage my time and manage my work. It has been overwhelming being a new mom, but I will not give up my dream to change the lives of millions of women in making health and fitness a fun and enjoyable experience.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I love two authors: Jonah Berger and Daniel Pink. I have read many of their books. Their books help me with my marketing in getting new clients. I think the hardest thing about being a business owner is maintaining motivation to grow and having new ideas to help with growth. Reading everyday helps me keep my motivation up.
Here are two concepts that I found super helpful when networking and reaching out to clients.
Concept 1:
Do not email on Fridays, people are on weekend mode and will likely ignore your email and on Mondays they have so many emails and they will just skim through it. It is best to email midweek if you want someone to take your email seriously.
Concept 2:
If you are wanting people to have motivation to start something like fitness, the start of the new month and the new year is the highest motivation of when people are going to act. At the end of every month, I email my list of leads if they want to start my fitness program during the new month. It really works and it is all because I am always reading a new book to help me understand motivation.
