We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stacy Parker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stacy below.
Hi Stacy, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I have taken risks many times throughout my life in order to pursue my creative passions. I have left full-time, stable employment on more than one occasion in order to devote all of my time and energy to creating art. It is almost as if my heart could endure only for so long being dedicated to something that was not aligned with my artistic nature. My art has always been my driving life force.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My artist name is S.Chavez and I create abstract works of art on canvas. I began painting in 1999 during my recovery from reconstructive knee surgery. I needed an activity that didn’t require being mobile and I had a revelation: painting! I hobbled into the local art supply store and asked the owner what supplies I needed in order to begin painting for the first time. He politely walked me through my options and I chose to start with acrylic paints. From that day on, painting has been a passion, an obsession, an outlet, an expression and one of the most fulfilling forms of art I have ever found.
My clients have selected pieces for a specific accent for their home, as a symbol for an important person or event in their life, or simply because a piece spoke to them through an emotional connection. It is such an honor to share my work with others and I cherish each client.
I believe my work is unique because of the medium I use along with the colorful and passionate energy that each piece is infused with. I am proud to have been chosen to exhibit my work over the years. I am also proud to have written a short book entitled, The Journey of My Soul’s Voice – An Artist’s Perspective.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My love of art began when I was 4 years old. The local newspaper would offer a coloring content every week and I learned how to color, stay in the lines, choose colors and be vulnerable to judgment at that early age. I never won those contests but that didn’t deter me. I loved coloring so much that it became my happy place. Even as an adult, I consistently kept a coloring book and crayons in my possession. As I grew into painting on canvas, life experiences gave me inspiration. Art has been a means to express my emotions, heal from tough circumstances and explore creativity. Many of my pieces were created from a place in my heart that had been vulnerable, hurt, invigorated, scared, and confused.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the endless number of ways to express my creativity. I am often inspired to try new and different mediums and this translates to life in the larger sense. I also enjoy constantly learning something new, discovering new activities in my community to get involved with, and exploring different landscapes in nature. Making something with my hands that didn’t exist before is so rewarding. I have been a sugar cookie artist, painter, writer, actor, and photographer and the adventures will continue!
