Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacy Fisher. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stacy , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
It is our mission to provide post-secondary cosmetology industry education, certification and to fully prepare students to pass the State of Michigan’s examination for licensure and placement in the beauty, health and wellness industry. This mission is very important and meaningful to me is because all too often, we encounter individuals who are very talented with providing services in the beauty and wellness industry, but for various reasons, have not pursued the education which leads to professional licensure.
It is very important to me, that people excel in life and move toward bigger goals. I want to see people build their careers and not simply settle for working as a novice.
A part our vision is to uplift people, careers and the communities in which we work and live. We achieve this by encouraging and empowering people with the resources they need, through tuition discounts, full scholarships, partial scholarships, our book rental program, free uniform shirts, no interest tuition payment plans, no down payment, adult life skills mentorship, a very flexible class schedule, our Youth Cosmetology Program and our Non-Profit – Village Help Group resource service.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a high school student at Thomas M. Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan, I was presented with an opportunity to study cosmetology through the Detroit Public Schools Vocational program. At the time, I had no idea how important and valuable this opportunity would prove to be, in my future. I graduated high school in 1987 and became a licensed professional in 1988. I want these same opportunities for others. Unfortunately, many of the programs that existed in the past are not available anymore.
More recently, I’ve advanced my career by becoming a cosmetology instructor and it has been very rewarding, by way of helping people. I am very proud to be the owner, founder, administrator and one of the instructors at Beautiful Hair and Nails School of Cosmetology. I am also, extremely proud of our Youth Cosmetology program which serves ages
6-16 and has some very talented young ladies.
One of the main things that sets us apart from others is that we uphold Christian values and high moral standards. We have a prayer list for anyone who wishes to place their name on it. We do not force or discuss any religious views. We do not allow profanity, we keep a very nice, clean relaxing institution with low volume, upbeat inspirational music which promotes a nice calm atmosphere.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation within this market is definitely a positive one, which is growing because of out integrity and honesty with our students as well as, our clients. We are also widely recognized by our peers and colleagues because of our support and presence at all of the major hair shows, expos and vendor opportunities.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Beautiful Hair and Nails School of Cosmetology appreciates each and every student who entrusts their education with us and I understand that tuition and supplies are a financial burden for the student. I didn’t want their uniform to be another burden, so I wanted to help in some way. I taught myself to make the uniform shirts and I provide one free of charge, for every student. This product has grown into black shirts for fall/winter and pink shirts spring/summer. More can be purchased at a very small fee, if needed.
