Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacy Firkus . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Stacy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
The most innovative thing I have done in my career was that I had the opportunity to travel abroad; that is one of the most amazing experiences in my life and one that I would love to do again. Educating people about traveling and my photography by sharing my adventures allowed me to develop a community of like-minded people where I get to learn from and inspire them in return. I had the privilege of visiting Ireland, Wales England, London and Paris. I can’t wait to travel more in the coming years and seek more adventures in the wedding industry.
Stacy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Thank you for stopping by and getting to know the girl behind the lens. I’m that dog mom that treats my boys as my children I have three and I am obsessed. I run my photography company full time and travel all over in my 5th wheel. I am a little loud always laughing and I love to travel.
Let me tell you why you need me at your wedding. I’m your cheerleader that is rooting for you all day, I’m that support system when something goes wrong, and I am 150% passionate about what I do and I’ll ensure you will have the timeless images you have always been dreaming of. Your photography experience with me is unique and tailored to fit you desires and needs. You can also find me dancing on the d-floor with Aunt Sally capturing all her 90s moves.
I pride myself in making sure you look & feel comfortable in front of the lens no matter what. I mean unless you want those cheesy photos, right? I will tell jokes that make you snort, I’ll make sure your bride-tribe is locked and ready to go, and I’ll even get your grumpy uncle to smile during the family photos.
If you love to have fun and enjoy a stress free day then that’s what I am all about simple and sweet along with a little quirky.
I provide adventure elopement photography, destination photography and traditional photography & videography. I also offer prints and albums to be handcrafted and created for keepsakes. My style of imagery varies I love to capture candid moments while documenting the day as it happens as well as art photography poses that you would see in Vogue. I’m bold and vibrant with a true to color feel for editing.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I feel the time I have spent in the wedding photography industry is a true strength. During this time I have built relationships with my clients, vendors and other photographers. This has led to more exposure through word of mouth and social media. Word of mouth is a great way to build your reputation by making sure each person who experiences your services raves about it to their friends and family.
I believe being professional and being able to handle all of the different situations that come my way on a wedding day is what makes up my reputation as well. I am always going above and beyond for my clients, making sure they are happy and taken care of.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When starting a business like mine out of my home. I started with very little funds with a need to provide service at a low cost so I could build an amazing portfolio, I was working at King Soopers over a span of 14 years which I saved up my own money and then started my business. All I had was a cheap camera and lens. In time that grew into something more as clients began to see my imagery and had an attraction for my personality and style of work. Of course, I eventually purchased more gear along the way but it was paid for by myself through hard work. I am self taught and learned many things on my own, when I first started I didn’t see clients for about 6 months so I used that time to read up on photography including learning about lighting, composition and editing.
