Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacia Thompson-Wrench. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stacia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Before I founded Corvus Beauty, I randomly tried a shampoo bar at the mall because I loved the idea of reducing plastic in my beauty routine. Unfortunately, that bar broke out my scalp terribly. Whether it was a reaction from the fragrance or SLS, I’ll never know. I could have written them off after that experience, and probably some folks have. Especially moms with littles that have sensitive skin to consider. I loved the concept of plastic free beauty, but performance was an issue. I wanted to elevate the solid haircare space and create products that would be ultra-gentle while still providing an effective, salon-quality cleanse. Sustainable beauty is the future, and it’s our mission to be part of that.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Some background about me is that I am a certified Scalp and Haircare Educator with the US Trichology Institute but my degree is actually in Environmental Biology. When I graduated I soon realized the environmental field was not for me, and ended up working on the clinical side of things. This unique blend of nature, sustainability and science is I think what gives me my edge. I’m known on social media for providing haircare science and education from an ecological lens in a nuanced way through storytelling. I like to imagine myself as a sort of bridge between these two worlds that are unfortunately pit against each other. Which I think is so needed right now in the age of polarization. I have folks in my community that have been burned by both conventional and clean beauty, and come to me seeking a balanced, fear-free approach so they can make more sustainable beauty choices with confidence.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My family was recently caught in the crosshairs of the flash floods here in Milwaukee, WI. Our basement was flooded over 3 feet and we unfortunately lost almost everything down there. This included business materials like product packaging and shipping materials that I kept there for storage. It was honestly devastating and a terrible loss for my family and business, which took a financial hit because of it. I seriously considered closing down my business. But instead, I invited my community into my world and shared my struggle. I had the most overwhelming (in a good way) response and outpouring of support. My community showed up for me. And it gave me the strength I needed to keep going.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I don’t treat my customers like another quota or number. I genuinely and sincerely care about them seeing results and their lives being changed. I show up in their life because I want to and I care. Not to just capture a sale. Folks can see right through the inauthenticity and are turned off by feeling “used” by brands. My most loyal fans know that I’m their biggest hype girl. I show up for them with no strings attached and make myself available when they need me. My suggestion to brands just starting out is to show up authentically and don’t treat your customers like a means to an ends. They are real people with real needs. Build those relationships.
