We were lucky to catch up with Stacia Harvey-Randall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stacia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Black Women of Hospitality is a 501 (3)(c) National non profit organization with a mission to assist with advancing women of color in the hotel, airline, restaurant industry. We will provide professional development, career opportunities, mental health resources, community service initiatives. This organization is well needed because many women need assistance with getting to the next level and BWH will assist them with that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am most proud of not only having a vision in January 2o23, but after three months putting a plan together and never giving up. I have been in hospitality for over 20 years and I was never able to be in a community group that would uplift me. I am helping women daily, advocating our organization, and always thinking of how I could take it to the next level.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my founder at a celebrity vision board party. We connected instantly after we discovered that we were in hotels. We decided to meet via phone to discuss our visions and how we can help women of color advance to the next level and help them achieve their goals so they can be their best selves.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During Covid-19 I had to take a pivot in my career because the hotel industry took a huge hit because of high level face interaction. I resulted in working for David’s Bridal and New York Life which was totally out of my element, I learned the job and performed well but as soon as the world reopened, I returned home where I belonged which was hotels.
