We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stacey Yael a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stacey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I am on a mission to foster joy filled genuine connections. It began when I was invited to join the Steering Committee for the first ever Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair in Media, Culture, and Feminist Studies at Rutgers University. Working with Gloria Steinem and this Committee of seasoned media veterans first hand was life altering. I learned how women are underrepresented in positions of leadership in media across genres. I was also introduced for the first time to the power of talking circles. I started hosting talking circles on a wide range of topics with diverse women around the world. I am so grateful to be immersed in this exciting work and for connecting with brave, inspiring women. This work led to my vision to create a new way to foster connection and escape the limitations of a strict corporate mindset… and the seeds for creating tuttO were born.
Stacey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Stacey Yael, proud founder of tuttO (the flirting game & app) and Visible Women (celebrating and connecting a vibrant global network of PRO-AGENCY trailblazers through dynamic live events and curated talking circles). I am a seasoned entrepreneur, strategic advisor, art enthusiast and proud mom of 3.
I founded Visible Women to foster curated global connections and host powerful talking circle conversations exploring the intersection of gender, media, art, tech and agency.
My experience fostering conversations with Visible Women sparked a desire to dive deeper.. so I recently launched www.tuttoplay.com – where flirting isn’t just for romance… it’s from within yourself, from business to friendships…it’s about attracting what we want in all aspects of life!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I fully embrace the idea of being open to unlearning. My recent intern was chatting with me in the early stages of her internship and expressed her concern that she was not learning enough. When she told me this, I was actually thrilled to hear she was uncomfortable and questioning her role and contribution. I realized her internship and all of my projects are really centered around unlearning. I knew that she definitely was learning, but just learning life lessons and not what is typically valued in a school setting. I thought of how she had just met with another member of Visible Women for coffee. I went on to explain that as part of growing a global membership, she can tell her supervisor, and could proudly list on her resume- “I made a new friend”. I knew that if she left the internship with the potential for a new life-long friendship, that is more valuable than writing a research paper (especially with the advent of AI). As I see it, one can’t build community or be part of an organization centered on fostering connections, without actually investing yourself into the work of making real friends. Cut to today, where she is writing her thesis for graduation about Visible Women and unlearning. She is also now consulting on tuttO as our journey continues. For this, I am so, so proud.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Engaging with groundbreaking creators and entrepreneurs is thrilling for me. However, in these conversations, I noticed a concerning pattern: our dialogues often slipped into something resembling a well-rehearsed script. It was as though we were all attuned to delivering polished elevator pitches, following pre-set talking points, and inadvertently selling a somewhat limited version of ourselves. This realization really struck a chord with me and pushed me to pivot and create tuttO. I hope to reclaim the spontaneity and allure of flirting with life to reconnect with our deepest desires. I’m on a journey to harness technology to foster more genuine human interaction, and discover new ways to reclaim the joy and power of expressing our true selves. Come play!!
