We were lucky to catch up with Stacey Pollom recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stacey, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My entire life I’ve separated my love of art from my vocation. I worked a decade in high stress emergency medicine and my respite from these stressful times generally consisted of calligraphy, painting, photography, and design.
However, I’ve realized my eye as an artist paired with my skill set as a nurse practitioner created the perfect marriage for an accomplished aesthetics injector. Working the last five years in aesthetics and learning extensive anatomy has instilled a confidence to blend the art of injecting with my other forms of art. Practically, this means I have an art gallery where I perform aesthetic injections and opening this unique business model has completely revolutionized the trajectory and satisfaction in my career. My studio is filled with vibrant floral canvases on the walls and my goal is to make my patients feel beautiful, valued, and seen before even performing a procedure. Injecting in my art gallery also alleviates nerves or white coat syndrome that inevitably exists. I have had the privilege of entering into relationships with women and unveiling what a masterpiece she already is. I’m not simply seeing the science, anatomy, and formulas, but also noting highlights, shadows, and seeing each person as a work of art.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with an extensive background in emergency medicine that performs aesthetic services (botox, dermal fillers, microneedling, chemical peels) in my art gallery. My studio is filled with vibrant art that I’ve created over many years and allows my patients to enter into my space with less anxiety or white coat syndrome. I believe being an artist sets me apart in my profession. I don’t rely solely on my educational background or a cookie cutter approach, but instead rely significantly on my artistic eye to note highlights, shadows, and unique beauty of each individual. I also believe my faith and values sets me apart. I see each patient as being “fearfully and wonderfully made” by the Ultimate Artist and my goal is to preserve each person’s natural beauty with a conservative treatment approach. When I look at my daughter who is so beautiful and exquisite.. I want to ensure I’m modeling that I don’t want to distort or change, but instead reveal the beauty that was always there.
My business has also given me an avenue to support my two greatest passions in life: my love of my Savior and love of my family, specifically my son who has special needs. Therefore, I partnered with Downside Up and Renew Ministry to give back to local non-profits that hold an extraordinary place in my heart. They are my why and I love finding creative ways to integrate them into my business. You’ll actually find that all of my art has been signed by my son or other special needs children in our lives.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
So after a decade in emergency medicine, 2020 and Covid hit the healthcare field in an unimaginable way. While I will forever be thankful for my time in the ER and Urgent Care, I experienced significant burn out and sensed a drift of my initial passion and love for medicine. Additionally, my 2 year old son was diagnosed with autism and the 12 hour shifts made the endless speech/occupational/physical therapies for my son feel impossible. Entering into aesthetics was a true saving grace for my career as a nurse practitioner. Aesthetics allowed for flexibility of schedule and renewed gratitude of my vocation. I went from experiencing people in the worst circumstances, to developing relationships with incredible women seeking well deserved self-care. This truly felt like Lord caring for my heart as a mother as I stepped into the chaotic world of caring for a child with special needs and managing medical appointments, therapies, and IEP meetings.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I strongly believe my success and growth in this incredibly competitive field has nothing to do with any business strategy, but instead loving people well. My faith and values dictate how I see and care for each individual I come in contact with. I enter into each relationship with gratitude and a cup overflowing. I do my best to communicate how special each patient is with a bouquet of florals, art, and card after each appointment. I started this gesture my first week and I have been blown away how impactful and meaningful it has been to my patients to receive a gift. However, in a community filled with skilled injectors at every corner, I am the one who is gifted by their presence and I truly hope to communicate that clearly.
