We recently connected with Stacey Morin and have shared our conversation below.
Stacey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
In 2007, I was diagnosed with 2 auto-immune diseases that impacted my entire being and the way I was living. I went from a very active (high school athlete) to a body that was in constant pain and extreme exhaustion. This practice of yoga introduced a way to move my body a bit more gently, and truly met my body where it was at. But most importantly, it was able to lead me into trusting my body (and forgiving) where I had given up on it through this diagnosis.
My mission in sharing this practice is to empower my students to lean in, to listen to what the wisdom of the body is telling them and to even become amazed and fall in love with all the power that the body innately holds.
When we truly start to trust the innate healing in our bodies and the sheer power that it has, things start to shift. Yoga can provide the space physically, mentally and emotionally to do just that. Yoga certainly isn’t a cure all, but rather a practice to find and place space around our humanity/experiences and discover how to tap into living our most powerful human life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Stacey Morin and I am a ERYT200 and owner of Powerful YOU Yoga, a boutique yoga studio in the very small town of Pittsfield New Hampshire.
I discovered yoga about 10 years ago when a friend brought me to a class with her. A curious thing happened when I was able to make these shapes with my body…firstly that I could actually do it with my struggles with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and secondly the peace in my mind after class. It was if I was floating and was completely hooked. Eventually so much that I underwent my 200 hour training to ultimately share this practice with others.
Powerful YOU Yoga opened in July 2018 as a brick and mortar yoga studio that offered various yoga classes in the morning, afternoon and evening. 2020 allowed a pivot to unfold as the physical yoga studio was closed (with the remainder of the world!) and I was able to expand to virtual offerings as well as outdoor yoga classes at various parks, lakeside, and in backyards. It was a scary time, but am proud to have made it through and even had growth!
I would love to foster a belief within my students that they are worthy of the time they set aside to practice yoga. That they are able to trust their body and its wisdom. That they can go through the muck, through the peaks, and be an observer when needed. That they gift themselves this practice.
I have also expanded my offerings with unique yoga experiences, from day retreats to Bend & Brew at local breweries, to classes at local farms-the most important thing to me is to be able to give back to small businesses and come together to mutually benefit. Because really, we are so much better when we work as a team and community!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy is to be 100% present within the business. If you are ‘checked out’ and not physically there, the heart is not present either.
Client retention and doing small things to make each and every client feel seen, heard and special. A birthday email, a random card in the mail, a discount just because or small gift really makes the difference.
And for new people, welcoming them in with care, giving them a tour of the facility, rolling out their yoga mat, introducing them to the person next to them.
These small touches foster personal referrals, and this is the way to grow clientele who stay.
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Yes!
As a solo entrepreneur who operates the yoga studio as the only teacher wearing many hats, I had to add an additional stream of income that wasn’t necessarily another yoga class as it is taxing on my body physically with having RA. January 2023 I added an Infrared Sauna to my offerings and it has been such a healing modality for my students and community. Looking ahead would like to add another speciality offering…hopefully this year!
