We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stacey Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stacey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally when I started High School. My whole life I had always loved Art and Crafting, but I really started taking it seriously at the age of 14. I took as many Art Classes as I was allowed. I spent years building my portfolio and perfecting my skills. At the time I was just learning to bake and decorate cakes, but I also really loved to draw, paint and sculpt. I had dreams of being an Artist but I also knew I had to find a way to make a career out of it. I originally thought I would become a Graphic Designer, but I really needed a profession where I could get my hands dirty. I couldn’t stand the thought of sitting at a computer all day. That’s when I really started to fall in love with Cake Design.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Stacey Moore and I am the Bakery Catering Sales Manager for Cosentino’s Catering. In this role I get to create and design hundreds of dream wedding cakes for couples every year! What sets me apart from others in this industry is I’m not afraid to push the boundaries with my cakes. I have such a drive to create the biggest, most elegant and over-the-top wedding cakes! Although Wedding Cakes are my specialty, I also create cakes for many other events such as Birthdays, Showers, Graduations and Retirement Parties. Lately I have had a lot of interest in my 3D hyper-realistic cakes which are so much fun! What I want my potential clients to know about me is I put my heart and soul into every cake I make. When you work with me, you will be getting a one of a kind piece of handcrafted edible artwork and I think that is so special!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an Artist is being able to share what I create with the world. I love the reactions from my Brides and Grooms when they see their vision come to life. I love seeing a child’s eyes light up when they see their birthday cake. That means everything to me! The best part of what I do is getting to be a part of so many milestones and celebrations in peoples lives. It’s all about the happy times and it makes for a very fulfilling career!

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
There are a lot of things that drive my creative journey. I became a mom at 19 and the road to where I am today hasn’t always been easy. There have been many times throughout my life where I was told I just need to “get a real job” and I’ve been referred to as “just a cake decorator”. I spent years working my way up through Cosentino’s Cake Decorating program, perfecting my skills, building my reputation and portfolio and eventually made it to the top when I was promoted to this Corporate Position, which was life changing for me. My goal is to show people that it is possible have a successful career and a good life as an Artist. You just have to work hard and be willing to put yourself out there and take all the risks! Be proud of what you are making and don’t be afraid to share it!
