We were lucky to catch up with Stacey Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stacey, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
My goal is to give Kpop fans an experience that they will never forget. Kpop fans have parasocial relationships with idols (Kpop stars) and at my events they can meet up with people who have the same interests and form friendships. One experience that I will never forget was when a customer told me she likes to wear BTS themed bracelets during her chemotherapy treatments. After hearing that I gave her seven bracelets that symbolized each member of BTS. She was very happy to receive them and we send each other messages every few months to talk about BTS.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a kpop themed event planner who schedules kpop themed cupsleeve events, kpop dance parties and workshops. I found out about Kpop when my husband who was my boyfriend at the time was stationed in Korea in 2005 and sent me some music and listen to. The fashion and music videos really interested me. I decided to open my own Kpop themed business in 2020 after leaving my job in the medical field to stay home with my kids who had to stay home due to the pandemic. At the time I was fearful for the future but now know it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. The joy I see in my customers faces makes everything worth it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to not be afraid to go to meetings and present what the kpop industry is and what kind of services I provide. I had to learn my worth and know when to accept, revise or leave certain situations. I basically had to unlearn taking any deal that was offered to me and negotiate deals without being intimidated.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I used the 401k from my previous job working back office at a cardiology clinic to fund my first few events.
