Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacey Hines. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Stacey, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My company, Epic Transformation, has a mission is to support individuals and businesses to live, love and lead from a place of wellness. While I love being a corporate executive, I’ve always been entrepreneurial at heart., but I didn’t set out with an intention to go into business for myself. When I entered the Executive space and my responsibilities increased, I found myself busier than I ever imagined with a husband, three children and the demands of a full time leader in the technology industry. I was overwhelmed and burnt out before they even recognized these as hazardous workplace conditions! Eventually, my overcommitment to so many things and people resulted in a total life collapse. Within 6 months I was separated from my husband, diagnosed with breast cancer and a quickly scheduled mastectomy, separated from my children for several months while I went through treatment, and eventually being treated for clinical depression. Whoa! It was a very challenging time and ultimately the catalyst for my desire to support women in their quest for greatness which later expanded to include others. I created a company that provides corporate training, coaching and consultation on self awareness and mindfulness in how we show up at work, in our intimate spaces and with our self care. Much of this expanded from my podcast called The Balanced Lady Boss with the sole intention of creating success without stress! We help executives, managers and emerging leaders amplify their inner voice so they can make better choices for themselves at work and in their lives.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an author, speaker, executive and CEO/founder of my own company Epic Transformation. I have a deep commitment to supporting women in leadership and to the technology industry which is evidenced in different awards, most recently including the Woman of Impact award from the High Commission of Canada on International Women’s Day 2023. I’m an American of Jamaican heritage with deep Caribbean ties and focus a lot of my service work in helping to build the region. I do this through serving on Boards and supporting early stage Caribbean tech entrepreneurs on their journey. In 2017 after working as an executive in the corporate technology and strategy arena for several years, I founded my company Epic Transformation to create wider impact on my terms. Shortly there after, in 2018 I launched my podcast The Balanced Lady Boss show to help professional women to live, love and lead holistically so they can enjoy their success and avoid overwhelm and burnout.
It was during this time of exploring who I wanted to be in the world that I started writing my memoir. The launch was cancelled due to COVID, but I used social media to do a digital book reading and sharing of the book with my community. 5 Year Love Affair is a true survivor story of overcoming cancer, mental illness and divorce. The work on the podcast and book sparked my focus and advocacy related to wellness for women in corporate.. After my own struggle with mental illness, I wanted to help others who were dealing with depression, anxiety and high levels of stress. I wrote and published a set of daily intention cards to help people let go of negative, stressful, controlling mind-trips and step into powerful thinking.
As an extension of the cards, I’ve written and published a journal, created affirmation candles and natural body products that all tie into taking care of oneself, mind, body and soul. I love doing this work and love sharing about this on my show.
I am really excited about my podcast as we are now in Season 5. We have listeners from around the world and more tune in every week!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
While in the midst of building my company this year, I went for a routine breast cancer examination and found lumps in my other breast. This once again put life in what felt like a whirlwind of appointments, tests and procedures that took 3 months. During the time I continued to share with my community on social media and made the difficult decision to let go of most of my staff to focus on my health. Thankfully, the cancer had not returned and during the experience, I was able to coach myself, meditate, seek therapy and other kinds of support to help me with creating a positive, health first mindset. Many of the skills I learned as a coach and trainer helped me to focus on being well during this difficult time. Despite all the challenging circumstances with my business, I treated this as another opportunity to slow down and pay attention to what I needed in that moment and I’m now reimagining what it means to be an entrepreneur in a way that works for me and my health.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being an authentic servant leader has been the greatest asset for my reputation. Without even really understanding vulnerability, I have found through sharing my stories of success, but mainly failures and learning moments, has been transformative. It has impacted how people relate to me and how I am viewed by my colleagues and peers. I’ve also spent a lot of time serving and giving back. I work with angel networks, volunteer for many different causes related to breast cancer awareness and women in technology. Through servitude I have found so much joy and created beautiful relationships that have helped me to blossom.
