We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stacey Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stacey below.
Stacey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’m a big believer in calculated risk. It hasn’t always been that way… I was raised in an environment where change was seen as very scary, and the only true goal in life was to keep things completely static, no movement, no change. Completely controllable.
But that’s not life, is it?! Lol.
Over the years, I’ve had to learn that risk is the only way to play this game of life! The most recent risk that I took was relocating from North Carolina to Phoenix, Arizona.
I had been renting from the same landlords for five years in North Carolina happily. I had been in the area for 11 years and while I loved where I lived, and had learned so much about myself in that time, North Carolina and I were about to have a break up!
On August 1, 2024, I got an unexpected text from my landlords notifying me that they were going to be increasing my rent by $700 a month. For most of us, this would come as a shock! I certainly did not have the finances to support that. And I had been so unhappy for a couple of years. After the initial shock, I realized that it was time to shake things up… to take a calculated risk.
I have always loved Phoenix! Ever since I visited they’re the first time for an audition in my 20s, I knew that it was a happy place for me. I had taken multiple vacations and even had a short stent, living there during a training experience. Over the years, I often thought about moving there as a fresh adventure to connect more deeply with my soul.
As many of us understand, these past years after Covid have been financially challenging. I have been in a constant state of financial flux. I had been thinking about moving somewhere just to change things up, but I did not have the financial resources to feel secure on a regular basis, let alone to make such an expensive move across the country.
But as the universe often does, it threw me this interesting opportunity & got me thinking outside the box. After exploring options to move within my current city, or to move somewhere on the East Coast, closer to the ocean, I recognized that my heart and soul would settle for nothing less than the desert!
I had two months to make this work. So I connected with my guides, got really quiet and opened up to my intuition, and manifested the resources to make it happen.
Despite my multiple visits to Phoenix, I didn’t know a soul in the area.
A vacation spot is very different when you are looking for a residence.
And I did not have the expendable income to hop on a plane and find my next place to live. I had to take the risk purely on intuition… for an A type control freak like me, this was quite stressful!
And yet I knew that this risk would have to pay off at some point. I was so unhappy where I was already, it couldn’t get worse, only better.
So the adventure began! I sold just about everything I owned, packed up what little was left, gathered my 3 fur babies, and with my mother’s generous help flying in from Canada, the five of us hopped on a plane and landed in Arizona on September 17.
I have not looked back.
While the journey to get here was bumpy at best, when I arrived, I felt alive in a way that I have not felt for years! It has not been easy. It has definitely not been all sunshine & daisies, wine & roses. But it has been more of that than not.
The “honeymoon phase” or the “honeymoon period” is a real thing. It is typically a 3 to 4 month window of time where a new experience remains fresh and there is a euphoria around your choice. The buyers remorse fear doesn’t typically set in until that 4th month.
I have been here now for 6 months and I can honestly say that I wake up in paradise every single day! There was no real emotional adjustment required.
I made my first friend within three weeks of being here. And I now have three different friend groups in the area!
I have connected with an incredible community in the area connected to my passion for wine.
And, yes, there is truth that wherever you go, there you are! My life still involves me and all of the challenges that come with that! But I don’t regret a thing!
I feel so much more connected to myself than I have in a really long time.
Was this a calculated risk… Absolutely! And a big one at that. I did not have much money in the bank, nor did I have a clear path for where those resources were coming from. But the universe made it happen. I manifested and trusted.
And I can honestly say that I am so much happier! I look forward to every day.
I’m not just existing, I’m living and I’m thriving!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Chello! I’m Stacey, The Black Feather Intuitive. So nice to connect with you! As an Intuitive in these times of great change, my joy and purpose is to be in service as a Guide to those who feel called to find & fulfill their purpose in a co-creative way. Being an Intuitive, Channeler, Oracle & Energetic Healer, it is my honour to offer whatever is needed to empower clients in connecting deeply with their spiritual & energetic selves, their soul space, their true essence. We have all come into this life with a specific soul path and a heart’s desire to become all that we feel we can be – for ourselves as well as for the greater collective. And it’s not always easy! Sometimes we need help, guidance and a non judgemental space to learn, grow and find ways to support ourselves while we answer the call to serve others in our lives. Sometimes we need a fresh, new perspective on what we are experiencing, and transformative tools to guide us forward into our highest & best outcomes. And sometimes, with all of the clutter and noise of the energetic world, it is a challenge to hear and interpret our own inner guidance clearly. It helps to have someone there to shine a light on what is truth, for confirmation, validation, as well as a beacon in the storm of confusion that we can often find ourselves in as energetically aware people. It is my pleasure to offer connection to support your path through:

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The last four years have been a painstaking lesson in resilience! As many of us know, Covid was not kind to us on a number of levels, as solopreneuers who provide offerings that could be considered wants, not needs, it has been challenging to be in a space of growth financially.
I went from having a thriving business with 9 people working for me, to myself and my fabulous assistant MaryAnn. Period. I’ve had to learn so much about the technological backend of running my business, which is not my strong suit. Tasks that normally would go to others, now fell into my own lap. If I didn’t do it, it wasn’t getting done. It’s been exhausting. And it’s been necessary in order to adapt and survive.
As a business owner, the dream often begins with the idea that you will be able to simply focus on your zone of genius – the strength and joys of doing what you do best – and being able to have a team of people covering the other aspects. I have always been a big believer in supporting and empowering others in giving them a space and a place to work their zone of genius so that I can do what I do best as well. It’s a very symbiotic, successful way of working.
Through unexpected contractor challenges, sudden ineffective work practices, a downturn in bookings, and the sadness and grief of living in a world with so much death and uncertainty, I had no choice, but to scale back to almost nothing. For me, it was a major grief & loss piled onto so much other grief & loss. There were days when I could hardly get out of bed, but knew that serving clients was such a necessity – so many people were struggling and in need- that it kept me going.
As I look back on this time from the other side of it, I recognize how challenging the whole experience has been. There were many times when I thought I would have to throw in the towel, to give up on my dream. So many times I didn’t think I was going to make it. And even though I am a spiritually minded individual, and I believe that we are here to grow through whatever life presents, all things being equal, I would rather not have gone through this experience.
But there’s no sense crying over spilled milk! I have learned so much about myself, about my capacities, And as a result, turned lemons into lemonade and really got clear and focused on what really matters. Simplification has been my business word of the year for the last three years! While I am not perfect at it, I have definitely learned and improved! And I’ve discovered that I can handle so much more than I really believed I could.
The business still isn’t where it used to be, but I’m still here! And these losses and challenges have given me the opportunity to bring more clarity to who I am and what I want to offer.
What is my message moving forward?
Now that all has been stripped away, who do I truly wish to become?
These questions are so valid and I do not know that I would have asked them had I not been in the situation I was for so long.
Business ownership, to borrow the phrase, can be a blessing and a curse. There is the downside of never really truly having a day off. Of having to make challenging decisions completely on your own, when all you would like to do is be able to hand it off to someone else. Of carrying the responsibility of all on your shoulders.
And in so many ways, you have so much more freedom. You are able to live your dream and make choices that work best for you. The buck stops with you! You are the sovereign of your own hill!
Life is always going to be challenging. That’s the whole point.
In the end, I would rather be my own boss, growing through the challenges presented in that way, than any other way out there. I would rather earn my resilience on my own terms. This is how I shine my light best! How about you?

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Today it’s all about authenticity, reliability, and integrity. Without these three things, a business cannot be sustained long-term. For me, I had a lot of imposter syndrome that I needed to overcome. There was a lot of insecurity around what boundaries were appropriate to set, and teaching Clients how to work with me. But once I found my flow, there was nothing stopping me!
Be truthful. Even if you have to over share, or give the information twice instead of once, you are doing everything you can to communicate how to make the most of time with your clients. No one likes to hear the word no, but there is always a way to explain it that allows for both parties to feel fulfilled in the contract.
Be authentic. In today’s world where we are oversaturated and inundated with information, products and services marketed by people behind filters and fluff, it can be challenging to know what’s real and what’s resonant for you. People may not be able to discern whether or not what you’re selling is all it’s cracked up to be, but they can definitely discern authenticity. In my opinion, it’s the only way to build a trusting relationship.
Be reliable. Say what you mean and mean what you say. It’s important to be respectful of others time as well as your own. We’re all super busy and we all have places to go, people to see, things to do. In a world where this is not always a priority or even a given, it helps you to stand out in all the right ways
At the end of the day, think of the kind of experience you would want to have for the money that you charge. Then create a product or a service around that, and add a little bit of your love, and you’ve got a recipe for success!
