Stacey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.

Women—especially those from urban communities—are often underestimated in both life and business. They are expected to stay within predefined boundaries, told that ambition beyond certain limits isn’t “feminine,” and rarely trusted to lead industries or make tough decisions. As a result, female entrepreneurs, creatives, and leaders are frequently sidelined, and their potential underestimated. I’ve personally experienced this bias in my journey producing this show, facing doubt about whether women-led stories could capture the same raw energy or audience interest as more traditional male-dominated narratives. Yet time and again, the success of shows like Power and P-Valley prove that audiences are craving dynamic stories led by complex women.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m Stacey Blackwell, an author of urban fiction and the producer of the TV series Commandments of a Female Hustler. I’ve always been ambitious and driven, with a deep passion for storytelling and creativity. My journey into this industry wasn’t easy, but every challenge I faced shaped the artist and producer I am today.

As an author, I craft gritty, compelling stories that resonate with readers who love authentic urban tales. On the production side, Commandments of a Female Hustler is my proudest achievement. It’s a raw and powerful series that explores the hustle, ambition, and loyalty of women who live life on their own terms. Despite countless setbacks, we managed to complete all ten episodes after years of hard work and perseverance.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is giving opportunities to talented, striving actors. I know how difficult it can be to break into the industry, and I take pride in creating spaces for fresh voices to shine.

What sets my work apart is authenticity and heart. Whether in my books or my productions, I aim to tell stories that feel real, with characters and situations people can relate to. If you’re looking for captivating narratives with depth and grit, my work is designed for you.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

This journey took me six years to complete, and it’s a true testament to resilience. Along the way, I faced setbacks that could have easily made me quit. I lost money, friends, and time. There were moments when film crews, after being fully paid, lost my footage and failed to deliver the services they promised. Each time, I had to start over from scratch, and it felt like the odds were stacked against me.

But through it all, I never gave up. I stayed committed to my vision and kept pushing forward. Eventually, the right cast and the perfect production crew came together. It took time, patience, and a lot of trial and error, but seeing the finished product—Commandments of a Female Hustler—made every obstacle worth it. This experience taught me that resilience isn’t just about surviving setbacks; it’s about believing in your dream even when the road gets rough.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is helping others achieve their dreams and believing in their potential. There’s nothing more fulfilling than creating opportunities for talented individuals who just need someone to see their worth. Whether it’s giving aspiring actors a platform or collaborating with other creatives, I take pride in being a part of their journey. Knowing that I’ve played a role in someone else’s success is one of the greatest joys of this work. It’s about building a community where dreams are nurtured and possibilities become realities.
