Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacey Allen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Stacey, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
My craft was not a generational talent that was gifted to me from generation to generation which I was self taught. However, I always had a passion for the creative side of cooking/baking. For example, I would watch the food network and simply be amazed at the creativity that was put into their dishes. During my ladder teenage years, my main goal was to find a good paying job instead of pursuing a career in the culinary arts. The skills that were most essential is learning how to measure your food. For example, measurements is like a science in the food world because it can make or break your product. On the other hand , the obstacles that caused a few bumps in my culinary road was my health and epilepsy which it caused memory loss and stress. I’ve learned to not let epilepsy take over my life and still be willing to learn my craft.

Stacey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, I’m a home based baker from Memphis, TN. I decided to go back to school for my passion 2018, recently graduated from University of Memphis with my bachelors degree in Hospitality and Management and my minor in Culinary in May 2021. I been baking and making treats since 2012 as a hobby but my business grew tremendously in 2020. Stacey’s Sweets sell all types of bake goods and treats but my specialty and most requested are my cupcakes. During 2021, I have attended and participated in over 10 pop-up shops in Memphis which I have sold out at each event. What’s makes me stand out from other bakers? My sweet confections is one in a million which I pour my heart and creativity into each one of my heart warming desserts. In addition, Stacey’s Sweets promotes positive customer service which we believe the customer is always right and to make sure they’re satisfied with my service.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I learned was to stop comparing my work to others. I used to feel down because I wasn’t getting enough reactions, shares , likes or even support from social media about my business. I had to remind myself that this is my passion and dream which a million and one likes on social media shouldn’t define my craft.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me is definitely social media. I have received new clients from being consistent on Facebook, instagram, and TikTok. Also, networking at pop up shops and exchanging business cards with the customers/attendees boosted my business exponentially.
