We recently connected with St. Thrillah and have shared our conversation below.
Hi St. , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned to produce mostly through youtube, but I had a background in music from taking guitar classes in school. I had been playing guitar for about two or three years when I started making beats so I had a tiny bit of knowledge of basic music theory and rhythm.
There were some obstacles in the way of learning. I always longed for a mentor but was never able to find one. I had to gather and learn information piecemeal. To overcome this, I collaborated with other musicians and producers and it all worked out okay. The information is abundant today which fantastic.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I (Thrillah) am a multi talented producer and composer from Staten Island, New York. I started making beats in high school when I wanted to rap but opted to use original beats. Once I made my first beat I was hooked and no longer cared to rap.
My output ranges from Lo-Fi Hip Hop, to commercial music for sync and my long standing collaboration with my brother/artist 303BAM. Since 2013, we’ve garnered hundreds of thousands of streams and views across various platforms.
With sync music, I craft the musical background that expresses the emotion conveyed in TV and or film. The soundtrack is integral to the expression of a scene and to persuading audiences. In order increase accessibility while also expanding my audience reach, I’ve made lo-fi beat packs available at little to no cost, often completely free, online. Additionally, I periodically do music critiques on various social media platforms to build a stronger community of like minded musicians.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by providing value for independent musicians. I offered free music critiques and free audio engineering services in order to network and exchange resources. It helped me find artists and musicians to collaborate with. Adding value to people’s lives is key to developing relationships with followers that can turn into true fans.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding part of being an artist and creative is creating something that didn’t exist before. With music, it’s a tangible expression of feeling through sound
