Squallé , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I always had a way with words. They were my niche and it came to me naturally to create music. Hard to explain it but I’ll try to make it make sense. Music made me feel like I was free. I could escape all the things that I was going through. Creating music meant that I could open up and share my story through words. It meant that I could be seen and that I could inspire someone else to pursue their dreams and passions.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I was born and raised in the city of Athens, Georgia. I’ve worked hard over the years to establish myself to be considered amongst the Top Tier of artist in my City. I am the Ceo and founder of Black Liaison, which I like to call ‘A clique of dope individuals’. It is an organization focused on community service, education, and creating expressive outlets for the youth in the Athens community. I’m Also the President and Cofounder of The League of Step, an org that mentors, tutors using Step as a way to teach self, love, self expression, and discipline.
My music is driving force for all the community involvement and the way that I connect with the youth. It’s a true reflection of who I am. Knowing it is like knowing me. I put my heart and soul into my music in hopes to inspire others. I believe that Living life is an art, and that we should make the world our canvas! It’s the Dope Soul way!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Knowing that all major artist once started as a local or up and coming artist is the start as to why you should support them. Most times all it’s takes is some consistent support. Sharing a post, liking something, commenting, and buying some merch/music goes a long way. Our society is normally only focused on the majors and most famous artist and it does allow newer artist to flourish until they have they have a certain level of credibility. Our society shouldn’t base talent off of number of fans or amount of followers on social media. Breaking that mentality would be the key to learning how to support the creatives.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being respected by your peers is something that most of us long for. The needing to be Heard and seen is what makes most of pursue a career in music. So, Having that notoriety from people who may not know you personally is satisfying. For me, it’s more about the connections to my fans. Knowing that your words can inspire and motivate others is the reward of it all. Your art could help people get through their hardships and personal struggles. Your art could be just as therapeutic to someone else across the world as it is for you. That’s definitely the best part!
