We recently connected with SPIKE The Percussionist and have shared our conversation below.
Hi SPIKE, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I was in high school when I figured out that had a passion for percussion and noiz.
At that point in time I seemed to find lots of random interests…I was ok at them but never great at any of them.
When I finally sat behind a drumset I suddenly discovered a natural aptitude for percussion and noiz.
This of course became an obsession.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a classically trained percussionist that is into the more macabre side of life.
So…school was the path to a higher sensibility of understanding the fabric of music.
Through school I made many life long connections which turned into music industry connections.
When in school I found that I really liked working with electronic music machines.
Many of my peers found that the drum machine was the enemy…whereas I found it to be a percussionist’s best friend.
One of my talents developed due to this affinity for the machines. I tend to work really well with click tracks.
Hell…in many cases I work better with machines than I do with humans.
This trait is why I generally get the call when machines are involved with a project.
My personal focus is with intense music and all of the aspects of noiz.
Black ambient drone and noiz is my expertise as well as the mechanics of working in a band scenario.
My longest running project is my solo endeavor called ASTROGENIC HALLUCINAUTING.
However…I am a bit of a walking music store. Well a store that carries literally everything except country.
Hah!
Most of my projects can all be found on my website: http://www.manipulate.net
Many of my noiz and video experiments and other footage can be found on my studio’s YouTube channel The Noiz Temple:

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s a pathway in which one can express themselves where other outlets of expression fail.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Persistence is all.
