We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Spencer Madison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Spencer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In 2022 i was fired from my job. Im not going to sugar coat my experience for you all. I wasn’t laid off, i didn’t quit- i was fired. Quite frankly, it was a blessing disguised as what felt like a huge failure. My job and i just didn’t fit, and that is okay.
I had a dream that i had been “casually following” for my entire life. I wanted to be a filmmaker. And like any childhood dream, the urge to break into that industry never really went away.
The day i got fired, something inside of me just sort of…changed. Like a light switch, my whole world lit up and i could see clearly for the first time. i suddenly saw why the universe took me out of a miserable bartending gig and thrust me headfirst in to the unknown.
And like all lessons the universe gives us, the hardships (me getting fired) was followed by something extraordinary.
A risk presented itself to me. I was asked to sign with one of the biggest talent agencies on the east coast. I said yes. With shaky hands and a nervous smile, i said yes and took the risk.
I am now a full time actor and filmmaker, as well as an Audition Coordinator for said agency and i have never been happier in my entire life…or at least in a very long time.

Spencer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Spooky Madison, and the name certainly means exactly what you think. Im obsessed with horror. My obsession with the genre shifted into something bigger and i began seeking out how i could surround myself with like minded people.
Once i began acting and making my own horror films, i realized how amazing the indie horror community was and how many amazing filmmakers there were all around me.
I think one of the things that i can offer that maybe others cannot, is my absolute dedication to the craft from not only a technical standpoint, but also from a creative (actors) standpoint.
Shifting from just being an actor to then working as assistant directors, production assistants, grips- anything on the other end of the spectrum ultimately helped me understand just how important each crew member is. It gave me a crazy appreciation for every job on a production crew. And i think as a filmmaker- especially producers and directors- who have worked or is willing to work in positions below them, know how to run a safe and fun production.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Immersing myself within the indie film community, working on many sets for free, lending my body and mind to 100s of productions and working my absolute butt off with a smile on my face has helped me build my reputation. ESPECIALLY in the horror world.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn a bit of my own ego. For a few years i felt REALLY depressed. When things began turning around i started to feel my feet lift off the ground a bit and the weightlessness was a rush. It felt good to create and be wanted.
It took a lot of rejections, a lot of “no’s” at auditions, and a lot of personal craziness for me to realize that yes, i have so much to offer- but that was nothing to brag about.
I needed to humble myself, and it turns out that i am only human.
