We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Spencer Joseph. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Spencer below.
Spencer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’m a very visual learner, so I immersed myself in the work of photographers I admire like Henrik Purienne, Cameron Hammond, and Carlos Nunez. Without formal technical knowledge at first, I tried emulating their looks and approaches while gradually developing my own style. Studying their work allowed me to experiment and create an aesthetic that feels authentic to me, blending inspiration with my unique vision.
Had I sought more mentorship and technical training earlier, it might have sped things up, but experimenting hands-on was essential to my process.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a Los Angeles-based photographer, videographer, and art director specializing in commercial work, particularly swimwear and product photography. I work with fashion brands, model agencies, and lifestyle campaigns, offering photography, videography, and creative direction. My goal is to create a world within my images that you can feel in your soul—capturing not just visuals but the emotion and essence behind them.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend editorial polish with raw emotion, delivering high-quality, innovative work tailored to each client’s vision and needs.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is creating something that truly resonates with people. It’s fulfilling to evoke emotions or tell stories through my work, knowing it can connect with others on a deeper level. Plus, the creative freedom and constant growth that comes with each project keeps me inspired and excited to keep pushing boundaries.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal driving my creative journey is to craft imagery that not only captures attention but also leaves a lasting impact. I strive to blend visual aesthetics with meaningful storytelling, helping brands and individuals express their unique essence in a way that feels authentic. Ultimately, my mission is to push creative boundaries, constantly evolving while staying true to my artistic voice.
