We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Spencer Erdossy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Spencer, thanks for joining us today. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
Although Ground 3 Media is one of my businesses now, I started a business-like Ground 3 Media months prior. I invested in that studio and did all the construction myself to create my vocal booth.
Within a month COVID-19 happened and it caused the tenant I was renting my space from to get evicted. Due to the Landlord being evicted my business, The Factory Sound, I was forced to move as well. The move caused a lot of mental stress and financial hardship, so I was forced to start from the scratch back working at a pizza shop. I was still committed to my dreams of music and being a businessman.
I never stopped pushing to reach my goals and within two months after we were forced to move, I had enough money to start construction again in late 2020 on what is now Ground 3 Media. At the time all this change was occurring I didn’t have a vehicle. I would work 12 plus hours and then walk 5 miles home nearly every day.
If the light rail was running, I would take that and walk the rest of the way home.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Spencer Erdossy, I am 23 years old, and I was born and raised in West Baltimore. I am the proud owner of Ground 3 Media, Erdossy Clothing, and Preferred Transport. I am an entrepreneur, investor, carpenter, engineer, model, actor, and more. This did not happen overnight, so I am going to share where it all started.
My start was rocky as a lot of other entrepreneurs’ experiences. I grew up in extreme poverty. I was surrounded by lots of distractions and temptations (crime, drugs, and cliquing). These temptations threw my life in different directions from dropping out of school to being arrested. Even though these experiences were difficult all throughout that time I knew I was meant for more. I did not have my father present; I was also forced to figure out what it meant to be a man.
My father’s passing caused me to go into a depression where all I could do to avoid the grief and feel close to him was through my hard work. In my late teen years, I did a lot of self-reflection on my life choices. After I decided to do what it takes to live as wholesome of a life as possible.
My personal motives are not fame, money, or power. My sole mission is to be the best version of myself for myself and others around me. When I was growing up, I had many great mentors and life leaders that taught me not to give in when everyone around can only express doubt. I aim to change this doubt by bettering myself, my brands, and the community in the process. More people will be able to witness success, and their doubts will turn into expectations. Our goal is to provide everyone a safe place to develop their talents and work toward their definition of success.
My business endeavors started as a Clothing Brand, Erdossy Clothing, and a series of fundraising concerts called Loaded Live. This would later fund the construction of my prior studio known as The Factory Sound. I partnered with Nigel Underwood to create Ground 3 Media. In the past couple of months, we have signed a lease on a building in Mt. Vernon on the 200 block of W Read St. This is the foundation on which we have constructed our media center Ground 3 Media, which is a multimedia company that is based and est. in Baltimore, Maryland.
As a business, we strive to serve the DMV and our community. Our services include a high-quality recording studio, radio, interviews, photography/videography, apparel, graphics, event management, marketing consultation, and more.
During the era of another creative renaissance occurring in Baltimore, we have made a promise to ourselves and our communities to dedicate our skills and abilities to giving a voice to those that would otherwise go unheard.
My team and I are dedicated to assisting brands with raising awareness & increasing exposure through numerous kinds of marketing, media production services at a lower cost to assist disadvantaged creatives & entrepreneurs.
The voices of the unheard are beneficial to my community by inspiring others that with their voice or creations they can spread the message for the voiceless and have their messages and stories heard.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I find the few most effective way of growing clientele is to keep a high level standard with the services/products offered and to keep putting your business infront of people even those who don’t care.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I recommend reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill It gives a great insight on the ins and outs of entrepreneurship this book has a little bit of everything from finance and moral in Business.
