We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sparkle Shabazz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sparkle, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Creating a meaningful project as a music artist and creative can be a deeply rewarding yet challenging experience. It involves a combination of artistic expression and dedication. I always have a vision of what I want to do before I work and I always want to create something authentic to who I am while still making it relatable for others and creating music that others can enjoy as well. I want to connect with my audience through genuine storytelling, and utilize visual elements to create genuine emotions.

Sparkle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Sparkle! I’m a multi-threat recording artist, producer, and songwriter. The reason why I got started with music is just because I love it. Its who I am, it’s in my soul, it’s in my veins, it’s the air that I breathe and I’ve always been surrounded by it and have always had a passion for it. On top of producing and songwriting I also DJ! I’ve DJed events for Netflix, Meta, Paramount Pictures, JBL, Group Effort Initiative (GEI), and many many more. What sets me apart from others is what I write. When I write my music i’m very thoughtful of what i’m writing about and how it could impact people especially the youth. Im proud of all my accomplishments no matter how little or big they are. From writing a song that I might never put out to writing a song for Barbie and being in the Billboard: Women in Music magazine, i’m proud of every single one because they all are apart of my journey in building who I am. No matter how big my career will become I will always remain humble, thoughtful, and thankful.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is the ability to express myself authentically. Creating music allows me to make my perspectives, emotions, and ideas something most people will enjoy. The satisfaction that comes from connecting with an audience, creating emotions, and leaving a lasting impact on others is one of the most fulfilling aspects of being an artist.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
A book that completely changed me is “The 48 Laws of Power” by Robert Greene. It made me realize a lot about myself and people that I choose to keep around me. And an incredible organization I’m apart of called “Girls Make Beats” has inspired me and continues to inspire me to be confident in rooms that are male dominated and to always be myself.
