Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Souliyanh Joshua Sangvone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Souliyanh Joshua , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
It was an interesting choice to decide what i wanted to be . When i was young i wanted to be a veterinarian, and then mid teenage years i wanted to be an artist or a graphic designer . Now that I’m all grown up , i ask myself who do i wanna be now . In my 20’s i felt lost , didn’t know which path to go , what job that will make my parents feel proud . Throughout my life i just was in the serving industry for 9 years . You could say my hospitality skill was my forte. Serving people , giving happiness, making sure everyone experience was excellent. As a person I’ve noticed I’m very in tuned with music . I think of things very therapeutically . When i became a Dj , i really didn’t think i would get this far . You can say i was really paying attention of the progress i was having . When i play music i was more focus on the present. Focusing on the happiness the music i bring on , you can feel the energy just uplifting in the air . People smiling , laughing , dancing . In my perspective , that was art in my eyes . I created this as an artist . That’s when i knew this is path i want to take in the future .

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve lived in California for about 14 years , my parents were divorced . I moved to Fort Worth , texas due to a lot of bullying in my life . I had troubles loving myself , making friends, i was afraid of people , Throughout the years i started meeting people who were really kind to me . It really helped build my character . I’ve met a lot of friends that were Dj’s and also Club owners . They’ve taught me a lot , guided me through life . I started Djing when i was about 26 years old i believe . I did it for it fun ! Go around friends to friends house and dj with friends ! I’ve met two guys along the way Michael Ferrari and Vubus Ly . Most minded people you could meet . You could say they were my mentors . I struggled a lot with confidence and giving myself appreciation of how much I’ve grown! Anyways , they own a club in downtown Fort Worth called “ Ampersand” they’ve asked me to Dj for one night ! It was actually really scary when i first dj . I wasn’t confident of my skill . It was one of the obstacle that challenged my life but im glad i did it . Being in that scene just made me feel not afraid . It was mind blowing thinking i was about to create this . Being recognized of my name that I’ve brought out . If you didn’t know , my Dj name is “ sunshine “ most people say I’m an actual human for of a Sunshine . What I’m really proud of myself is how i gain so much fans/followers? I frequently still ask myself to this day . Yes you can say my music can be the results of it , but it’s only half of it . I believe it’s because the person i am . I am very kind , i always put others before me. Every time at end of each set , i always come down to each person and greet them . I always say “ thank you for coming , i always appreciate your support “ because that’s what it means to be a Sunshine.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think what most people struggle to understand is that , yes Dj can be cool , it can be fun ! The fame and popularity is something everyone wants! But in the insight , it can be really draining . I would forget to take care of myself , have days off for myself and relax . I’m always so used to being the best host , networking with others , just always including yourself to everything because everyone needs you to entertain . It really takes a toll on your mental health , people don’t understand how Night industry can be really toxic . So my advice is take care of yourself once and awhile . You do deserve it ! The industry isn’t going anywhere.!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I asked that question that everyday , i guess you can say my goal is to find out far can i go . What’s the limits of my growth ? Because my motive is see how successful i can be and what can i overcome ! What goal is to challenge every obstacle in life to make sure I’m not afraid anymore . I want to create a story where people can read about my struggle and journey and learn from it . I want to help people and realize anything is possible in life .
