We recently connected with Soufsyde P and have shared our conversation below.
Soufsyde, appreciate you joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
I actually started writing and recording music back in the early 2000s, after my god brother was murdered. The impact of music itself always drove me crazy, but once I lost someone close to me who also wanted to pursue music added more fuel to the fire. I reached out to a family member who was in school for music engineering August 2008 for some beats he created, and have not looked back ever since.
I first started, by just simply writing lyrics without any type of music in background. Finding the stories, or moments I wanted to share with listeners. Then finding the right beats to match the lyrics. It was a lengthy challenge, that I was ready for. After, I finalized the music the main issue was where and how would I put the content out. After researching the best distribution service, and filing with Library of Congress. I proceeded with releasing singles, collaborating in with other artist projects, and my own albums.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, my name is Phil Lewis, stage name Soufsyde P. I’m an 37 yrs. old DMV resident. I’ve been writing, recording, and preforming music since I was 16 yrs. old. I use music as a gateway from the madness and troubles of everyday life. I’ve been told by many my music has helped my peers and listeners get through their days. I consider myself versatile to make music of various genres and topics. I am not afraid to step outside my comfort zone with making new music.
The real messages in my music besides the shining and splurging lifestyle is life is about choices. Good and bad. I want to give encouragement to everyone especially the youth of today and tomorrow. Letting them know, structure is needed to become great Showing maturity, ownership, and having respect for themselves as well others. I represent C.D.A.A.T Ent, which stands for Conquer Dominate Anything Around Territory.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most reward aspect to me being an artist is the freedom to create. Even if, I do not release the content. I have the time, space, and opportunity to create as much as I would like.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The best advice I can give anyone with managing a team and keeping morale, is to be considerate and fair. Listening to your employees opinions and complaints. Find solutions, and showing your appreciation for their hard work.
