We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Soufside Kathleen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Soufside below.
Hi Soufside , thanks for joining us today. One of the toughest things about progressing in your creative career is that there are almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
Honestly as an independent artist I come across unexpected problems very frequently, but the most frustrating was a technical issue on my music distribution’s end. For some reason, last year my artist account kept duplicating when I would release new music, instead of having all of my catalogue under my verified account. When you don’t have a management team and not signed with a label you have to learn how to solve every problem even when a third party’s customer service isn’t budging. That process took over a few months, but it was a reminder to figure out how to solve one problem a few different ways and remove the emotion you’re dealing with when encountering a problem.

Soufside , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an artist to the core and my form of expression is rap and songwriting. I released my first full project, “Treat Us Like Delicacy” a few years ago that put my work in a better space and I am releasing my second full body of work ” Everything Under My Sun” next month. I am most proud of my authenticity and resilience with my art, the music industry is changing in all forms and it’s important to stay grounded on what you want to express and who you are instead of moving in ways that might make you popular faster due to doubt and panic. The long game is just that, long, but rewarding.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Knowing I have one life and I choose to pursue a life doing what I love even though it is the most difficult. The goal for me will always be to gain and sustain financial freedom with my creative work. Then use that to help others. But the journey is a very gruesome one that deals with discipline, sacrifice, and a lot of misunderstanding from people that don’t know that majority of artist don’t choose this route, we feel empty once we start deterring from it.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being in a position to change your life and others in a positive way.
