We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sophonie Lafortune. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sophonie below.
Sophonie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The story behind my company name We are S.I.S. is close to my heart. If anyone knows me they know I call all my girls Sis! Because I see them as more than friends they’re like sisters, grounding me and lifting me up. When I began envisioning this organization, it was clear that I wanted it to reflect the powerful, transformative impact that women have when they come together. I thought about the women in my life who inspire me daily, each one a source of strength and purpose, and that’s when Sisters Inspiring Sisters was born. It’s more than a name… it’s a movement. We Are S.I.S. is about creating a global community where every woman feels empowered, valued, and seen, with the strength of sisterhood behind her. Our mission is to elevate, celebrate, and inspire women everywhere to fulfill their highest potential.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So my name is Sophonie LaFortune and I’m the founder of We Are S.I.S Social also known as Sisters Inspiring Sisters. I’ve always been surrounded by strong, inspiring women, and that sense of sisterhood has had a profound impact on my life. I began S.I.S. with a mission to empower women, helping them recognize their unique worth, purpose, and potential. I wanted to create a space where women could uplift each other, connect authentically, and feel empowered to step fully into their God-given purpose.
S.I.S. is not only a movement, it’s a ministry dedicated to fostering self-love, spiritual growth, and genuine community among women. Our offerings range from retreats and workshops focused on healing and self-discovery to events and resources that encourage spiritual growth and purpose-driven living. Our retreats, for example, are safe, uplifting spaces for women to explore self-love, healing, and their personal calling. We focus on the Christian faith, grounding our mission in spiritual principles that remind each woman of her inherent value and purpose.
What sets S.I.S. apart is our dedication to building a true sisterhood, where every woman feels seen, supported, and celebrated. This isn’t just about services, it’s about creating lasting impact. My goal is to help women transform not only how they see themselves but also how they live out their unique purpose in the world.
I am incredibly proud of the community we’ve built and the lives that have been impacted through our work. To me, seeing women leave our events feeling renewed, empowered, and deeply connected is what makes everything worth it. The main thing I want people to know about S.I.S. is that we’re here to inspire, support, and walk alongside you on your journey. Whether you’re looking to heal, find direction, or simply connect with other amazing women, S.I.S. is a place where you can belong and grow.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most defining moments of resilience in my life came after the loss of my late partner, Anderson. He wasn’t just my significant other, he was my biggest supporter, my partner in faith, and he believed wholeheartedly in the vision for S.I.S. Anderson not only helped me launch the organization but also invested in it, both financially and emotionally. In 2019, he tragically passed away in a car accident, and his passing left a deep void in my heart and life. It was an incredibly dark time for me, and moving forward without him felt overwhelming.
But during that time, the very sisterhood that S.I.S. is built on came to my side. The incredible women around me, those who believed in the vision and those who simply believed in me, carried me through that loss. They inspired me and reminded me of the purpose and the calling that God had placed over my life, even when I struggled to see it for myself. Their encouragement, prayers, and presence were a lifeline. They helped me to find the strength to keep going, to keep building S.I.S., and to honor Anderson’s legacy by pushing forward with the vision he was so invested in.
So yes, resilience has been a huge part of my journey, but it was also sisterhood that sustained me and brought me back to my purpose. Anderson was such a great man, and his love and belief in me continue to inspire the work I do today. I’m reminded that resilience doesn’t always mean standing alone, it’s often about allowing others to lift you up, carrying you when you need it most. Through that experience, I learned that God places people in our lives to remind us of our purpose, even in our darkest times.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe the reputation I’ve built in my market is grounded in authenticity. I’ve always strived to be real and transparent about my journey, both the highs and the lows. In a world where people crave genuine connection, I think sharing my real story, including some of the hardest battles I’ve faced, has allowed others to relate and find hope in their own struggles. People need more than just polished images or words, they need to see that if I’ve overcome my challenges, they can too.
But more than anything, I truly believe it’s the light of God shining through me that resonates with people. It’s not just about me, it’s about the spirit that flows through my testimony, evidence that God is real and active in my life. When people are drawn to what I do, I believe they’re ultimately being drawn to the love, strength, and hope that God provides. My goal has always been to let that light shine as brightly as possible, inspiring others to see the power of faith in their own lives.
