We were lucky to catch up with Sophie Telegadis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sophie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I grew up acting in New York so that has been instilled within me since childhood, I am now in Los Angeles continuing on that craft while kick starting my career in music simultaneously. It has been such an amazing experience opening up a new creative side of myself that I suppressed for so long and I have learned so much about not only my voice but me as a whole in this process! It has helped me build a more confident presence and learn to have an open mind to many opinions as well as still being able to hold my own pertaining to what I believe in.
Sophie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
From a young age I was raised into the entertainment business as a child actress and model, which a lot of people aren’t aware of. I kept at that until I reached high school when my family moved from New Jersey to Florida. I felt as though it wasn’t the same pool as New York and I felt a strong urge to just live a normal life as a high school student. I stayed true to that until TikTok started emerging and I never took it seriously until I started getting badly bullied and I fell back on social media to get the positive human interactions that I was lacking in my real life. Over time things started to look up for me and I made the big jump to move to Los Angeles after visiting a few times and creating amazing friendships beforehand that still stand to this day. I ended up graduating early and getting my diploma sent via mail because of how unhappy I was in result of the other people my age that surrounded me. Once I was in LA I got signed with my Acting Agent and shortly after my management and things have been so amazing and encouraging ever since. I am now working on my singing career and taking the steps necessary for that path and I could not be happier! I’m very proud that I have always stayed true to myself and let the world work in its own way which has in return blessed me with everything I have now!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have always had an issue with being bullied throughout my years in school and I have always said that as hurtful as it was in the moment I am grateful for it because I learned to be my biggest supporter. It’s very important to not be so hard on yourself because the world will do that job for you. It’s a sad reality that there will most likely always be someone that is hoping for you not to succeed but instead of allowing that to bring you down it’s very important to use it as encouragement to keep pushing. That is one of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned throughout my adolescence and it has definitely come to play in my current life as I am watched and judged through a screen on a daily basis. If it weren’t for my tough experiences throughout my schooling journey I don’t think I would be able to handle the criticism from social media as well.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As I answered in the last question, I learned to be my biggest supporter but because of that, at times it can be difficult to fully trust that the amazing people that do come into my life are there with loving intentions. As much as I learned a lot from the negative experiences I have had, it definitely resulted with an issue of trust on my end since I have had to be independent for a majority of my life. In this past year I have had the privilege of meeting so many kind souls not only in friends but in the people that represent me. It is so rewarding to know that I have a team of people supporting me throughout this journey and I trust them with every ounce in me. Sadly, not many people can say that with confidence but I have gotten very fortunate as of recently with the people that have entered my life. I have been able to learn that good people do exist and they are everywhere, you just have to be patient.
