We recently connected with Sophie Kochmann and have shared our conversation below.
Sophie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Growing up the biggest and best piece of advice my parents gave me can be summed up perfectly in a quote by Mother Teresa “Spread love with you everywhere you go, let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. ”
Throughout my whole life this quote has stuck and one I find that is always driving me to do my very best in work, with the people around me, and of course when creating content. Social media is always seen as a highlight reel and I think at times it can be really hard for people to be vulnerable on there. (Me included!) However by sharing simple uplifting messages. posts, and reels I feel as though it brings comfort and maybe a little more positivity to someones day. My goal and hope is that through the content I share, I am spreading that happiness and creating that smile the person on the other side of the screen wears.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those of you that have not heard of me or do not follow me, my name is Sophie Jo Kochmann. My friends call me Soph, my dad calls me Sophs, and my mom calls me Sophie Jo, so feel free to pick your favorite! I create content on both Instagram and TikTok. I have always had a huge interest in Social Media, Photography, Marketing, and of course FASHION. I began creating connections with local small businesses and photographers in high school. I was always on the hunt for new opportunities to help with modeling or promoting products, merchandise, or other items they were selling. This is when I began to share my life through social media. Slowly I had brands and local businesses reaching out to me. This had been a dream of mine for forever and seeing it come into play with some of my favorite local shops, felt like a complete blessing. This started a confidence in me that I wanted to be able to share with my followers. I made it a priority and goal of mine that if I was going to create on social media, I wanted to also make sure I am spreading happy vibes in any way I can! I want to be able to share my life, my wellness journey, and the highs and lows of everyday! Life is already hard as it is, the power of a short uplifting word, quote, or even bible verse is truly incredible. I want my social media to give followers a sense of comfort, home, and importance. I strive to do this everyday and will continue to spread that positivity we all need in our lives!
How did you build your audience on social media?
CONNECTIONS. This is huge. The biggest way and really what gave me the confidence to start social media was the connections I was making. I think putting yourself out there can be really hard and intimidating but the hardest part is simply starting. Now you may be asking “Soph, how do I put myself out there?”
Great question! Start small. Begin attending events in your local communities. Reach out to small businesses you love! SUPPORT small businesses you love. From there the rest slowly begins to fall into place!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a content creator is to hear and see the impact it is having on those around me. Although I share positivity and light, not all days in my life come easy. I struggle with anxiety, comparison, and so many other things. However hearing that a reel or tiktok I posted brightened someones whole day is what keeps me going. I forever want to be a place and a person people can come to about ANYTHING.
