Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sophia Meghani. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sophia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
I scaled my business in many ways, the main way being choosing my brand identity. Choosing where I want to be and setting long term goals, while also deciphering the target audience I want to appeal to. By visualizing your brand’s future and setting short term goals in order to get there is how I began scaling my business.
Visualizing the future for your business is your first step. Begin to think where you want to be in the next year, 3 years, 5 years. Do you want to be doing the same thing you’re doing now? Do you want to be making the same money you’re making now? For me, the answer was no. Being able to have a vision is one thing, but executing and taking action is another. Which brings me to my next step. The next thing that helped me scale my business was setting short term goals in order to reach long term goals. Having only long term goals can potentially set you up for disappointment if the duration to reach the goal is longer than expected. Being able to set short term goals will give you a better sense of control and show you that you are getting somewhere.
Using social media to your advantage also helped me scale my business. Social media is your free source of creating a larger audience. You can attract the EXACT audience you want if you can market correctly. I learned so much about marketing the proper way when I invested in classes with other business owners that are exactly where I want to be! Investing money in courses, 1on1 coaching calls, mentorship programs and more will also help you expand. Do not be afraid to INVEST in your business whether that is time or money. Never stop investing in your knowledge and education.
Your business will also begun to expand with consistency in all aspects of your brand. Be consistent in your content, responding to clients, daily story and feed posting, customer service, and the list goes on. Some ways you can be consistent in your content could be: schedule out your content for the week. Decide what it is you will be putting out on the platforms you choose. I plan out what feed posts I will be posting on Instagram and Tiktok for the week. Also choosing a video topic and breaking it up into multiple videos will give you: More content, more engagement, create trust with your audience and even better opportunity in going viral (since you’re putting out more content).
Next, I am a strong believer that customer service goes a long way and I believe that helped me scale my business. Being confident in the way you treat your clients is so important. I’ve came across too many TikTok videos where clients are complaining about unprofessional service providers. This is due to many people entering into the beauty industry for the money. People think its “easy” money but don’t understand the in’s and out’s of running a successful business before getting started. Give your clients consistency, like we talked about earlier. I have experienced myself and heard of many service providers who are inconsistent to their clients. When I say consistency I mean: show up on time every time for your clients, give your clients a consistent version of YOU (always show up in a good mood). There will be harder days, I have had multiple times where I’ve had to wipe my tears, pull myself together and go service my client. Staying consistent toward your clients will show them that you take your business seriously and they will automatically reflect the same energy. Remember YOU are the service provider. Stay professional and consistent!

Sophia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Sophia Meghani, I am the owner/CEO of NailedBySophiaa. I began my nail journey in spring of 2020. I began doing nails for the fun of it while in high school, not knowing where it would bring me. After going through the beginning struggles of running a business such as slow business, building clientele, unhappy clients, and more; I then began to have a steady clientele base and began running my business with a true business mindset while always striving and working for more. I was participating in cosmetology school putting hours in to get my cosmetology license, all while in high school. I then began teaching nail classes after being 2+ years into the nail game. I began finding a love for not only teaching nails, but I found a huge love and passion for teaching business. I loved helping young girls with how to begin their businesses, how to build their clientele, how to grow on social media, and the list goes on. I then was in school, in cosmetology school, servicing clients, and teaching nail classes. I knew what I wanted and would do anything to get there! I knew that when I graduated high school I was going to work full time to scale my business into the niche of teaching nail classes and transitioning into business mentoring, while slowly laying off servicing nail clients since I knew the business field was calling my name. I now am working full time, servicing clients, teaching multiple nail classes per month, working everyday to transition into the field of business mentoring, and trusting what God has in store for me. I have came so far since I first started my business journey, and this is only 18! Thank you so much to anyone who has shown any type of support to my business, that is the reason I am where I am today!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Growing your clientele can be done by so many different strategies. Here are some things that helped me grow my clientele base.
Social media is the best way you are going to grow your clientele. Mastering your social media marketing is the most important skill you need in growing your business outside from your core profession. Putting out what you want to attract is important, meaning depending on what target clientele you want to reach comes back to what content you put out. For example, when I began transitioning into the mentoring industry vs the service providing industry I began reconstructing my social media feeds to be directed towards the mentoring industry. I began putting out a majority of teaching content, in order to receive students in return.
Having a professionally designed page attracts more clientele. This does not mean you have to pay for a graphic designer, Simply choose your brand identity, (Your name, logo, color theme). And begin creating your page with a theme and strategy. Having a brand theme is extremely vital in making your page look professional. You want to have a theme so your entire page can match. How do you come up with a brand theme? Start by choosing a color or two. And creating a logo.
Make booking easy access. Make sure potential clients can easily find ‘How To Book’ without struggling. Make sure contact information is easily accessible to prevent any issues.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Like I mentioned earlier, I believe strongly in always investing in your education and knowledge. Buy that E-book, book that coaching call, invest in that mentorship program or that hands on class. This builds your confidence in your niche and can even help you network in your field. In my experience, I have took a hands on class, purchased multiple E-books, listened to podcasts and youtube videos, and even investing multiple thousand in business mentorship courses and coaching calls. I have seen extreme amounts of growth from learning from other business owners who have scaled their business to where I want to be! Being able to learn straight from the person who did the work, and is willing to help and give you real strategies is KEY.
