We recently connected with Sophia Louisa Lee and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophia, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
That’s a question I’ve never really thought about, so thank you for asking!
I would love for people to resonate with my artistic creations (preferably in this lifetime, but generations later, works too). But more than anything, to me, success is living life to the fullest, with love, joy and gratitude. If I can inspire people to live knowing they can do whatever they set their minds and hearts to, then that is the legacy I want to leave.
Sophia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am thrilled to say I am an award winning screenwriter whose work has been professionally produced. I am also an actress, having been in a few commercials and independent films (most recently in a feature set to be released this year). A film I wrote, produced and directed is currently in post-production. I recently finished a writing project with a producer back east that goes into production this summer, and have a couple of other projects in the works. (I am not yet a WGA member, but I respect and appreciate their strike, and I stand with them 100%.)
I also produce a YouTube channel wherein I interview other creatives – whether they are screenwriters, filmmakers, artists, or even practitioners of the healing arts such as QHHT (Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique) (the healing arts). The channel is Sophia Louisa’s So Zoom In. Not too long ago I interviewed actor Rudy Ramos of the television series Yellowstone. I enjoy it, and hope to continue with it for years to come.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It feels amazing when other people resonate with my work, and I am recognized for it. When someone tells me that my voice stands out, I admit, I smile from the inside out. Yet, the most rewarding aspect of being in the creative flow is the evolution of thought, not just within myself, but also in others. It is exciting to see new ideas come from people who have read or engaged with my work, and to see those ideas blossom.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
For the longest time I would hear, “don’t be a screenwriter. You’ll get nowhere.” The same was said about pursuing acting and filmmaking. It’s interesting how people like to see the worst happen in a future that hasn’t even happened. All we have is today. This moment of now. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or what your background is. What matters is you have a passion for something and you are on a path to take you there. It’s that energy that wakes you up in the morning and brings color to your dreams at night.
Nothing is impossible. You can focus on all the horrible things that can happen, and with enough energy you will make that happen for yourself because that is what you are programming yourself to believe.
Take that same energy and focus on all the wonderful things instead. Program yourself to believe you are doing it. You are making it happen. You are having a blast doing it. There will always be the naysayers, and it’s all too easy to get sucked into that barrel of crabs. But if your heart, mind and soul want you to keep going – then that’s what you have to do. And no matter what comes up, it’s all good. Some folks will never understand that, and that’s okay. They’re not the ones willing to fully embody their dreams.
