Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Lebano.
Hi Sophia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with a personal challenge—being diagnosed with progressive hearing loss at the age of 8. Navigating the world with this disability shaped my resilience and determination, and it sparked a deep sense of advocacy in my family, who always supported me through every test, surgery, and adjustment. This foundation of persistence carried me through many transitions: from high school changes to cochlear implant surgeries in 2016 and 2018, to transferring schools and eventually pursuing my MBA.
Through these life experiences, I discovered a passion for creativity and entrepreneurship. I started my business to help others bring their visions to life through website design, branding, and marketing strategies. My faith has been a guiding principle, influencing both my approach to business and my personal mission to empower others.
Today, I not only run my own creative agency but also co-host a faith-based podcast with my mom and mentor others through mastermind programs. Each step of my journey has taught me to embrace change, find strength in challenges, and remain steadfast in creating a life that aligns with my values and purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—there have been plenty of challenges, but those moments have shaped me into who I am today. One of the earliest struggles was being diagnosed with progressive hearing loss at age 8. It was an adjustment for my family and me, requiring countless medical appointments, learning to adapt to hearing aids, and eventually undergoing cochlear implant surgery in 2016. Navigating school and social environments with hearing loss wasn’t always easy, but it taught me resilience and the importance of advocating for myself.
Another major challenge came in 2020 when my father was diagnosed with cancer. Balancing personal grief with academic and professional responsibilities was and continues to be one of the most difficult seasons of my life. His passing in 2023, just before my undergraduate graduation, was a moment of profound loss but also a reminder of the strength he instilled in me.
Professionally, starting a business was no small feat. I faced the typical hurdles of any entrepreneur—learning how to attract clients, balancing multiple roles, and figuring out how to grow sustainably.
Through these struggles, I leaned heavily on my faith, my family, and the lessons I learned along the way. Those experiences deepened my compassion and resilience, qualities that now guide my work and relationships. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been incredibly rewarding.
