We recently connected with Sophia Jaime and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sophia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
Covid changed my business model by allowing me to dove further in to myself such as my likes, dislikes, aspirations and I found myself really indulging in the beauty world. At the time, between a month of two before the worldwide shutdown, I was a returning college student but was undecided on my major as I’ve switched it in the past about 5 times. Growing up I was always aiming and directed within the medical field but it wasn’t fulfilling as it’s been starting my beauty career.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sophia but I go by Sooph and I got in to the beauty industry a month or two before covid placed a worldwide shutdown, as I have always had a passion for beauty such as applying makeup on others and doing hairstyles I came across on YouTube or Pinterest. I have a nail business I am deeply passionate about but will shortly be adding additional beauty services for many of my clients and potential clients. My main focus is to assure each client has aaa appointment, based on their service they request, meets their expectations on their experience with me. I have learned that consistency and communication in your passion is key to having a successful career. At my early stages of my business, I did find that being my biggest problem and I am so grateful to being where I am today and breaking the uncomfortable barriers I have built when I was a full-time employee when I would work 9-5’s.
I am most proud of myself for putting myself out there. By that I mean, constantly promoting myself, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing the limits to trying new techniques and making moments about myself for once but incorporating it into my small business such as meeting new people to build those connection to later on network or have a Photoshoot for myself so I can put a face to my name. Every single one of my followers have been such a great help by encouraging me to go for all that I set my mind to and booking for services to fulfill their visions and challenge me to think outside the box.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was in foster care as a teenager. That moment in my life illustrated my resilience as I accepted what was, held no grudge towards my parents and never gave up on myself or my siblings near or far. I remember the thoughts I had exactly. I vowed to never put my future children in such situations, I vowed to always look at the positive side of things and I vowed to never give up, on anything for that matter. That moment in my life has taught me to give everything in my life, my all and I am so grateful towards the opportunities I have had and continue to come across.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele, I believe, would be my hard work and dedication. I truly work hard to putting myself out there and dedicate my work in to making each client enjoy their experience. I can’t wait to see how I grow with year(s) to come.
