Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sophia Cafiero. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sophia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my own social media; I did social media work professionally for many years before starting my own business. From promoting beauty services to covering live events and reporting celebrity news, I have always had a knack for utilizing one of the greatest tools a business can now have! I love the marketing and social media side of this industry so much that I actually began doing freelance work for other businesses and beauty professionals – it’s so fulfilling, especially because my brain is constantly thinking of new ideas for content!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sophia Cafiero and I was born right here in the 904! I was always drawn to the cosmetic industry but did not find my footing in it until I discovered microblading and completely fell in love with it. I have always had a strong work ethic and been very self-disciplined. I knew going into this career that integrity and quality were my main focus. With something as niche as microblading using high quality products, educating your clients on the process and simply being on their side is extremely important. There are a lot of microblading artists that use cheap products that don’t leave lasting results or have their clients come in more frequently than they should which compromises the integrity of their skin and eyebrows. Running my business with the goal of creating beautiful, lasting, low maintenance eyebrows I believe leads me to be successful.
I now offer microblading and microshading which are both very natural appearing semi-permanent enhancements for your eyebrows. I also train aspiring microbladers which is a whole new level of rewarding! I love teaching potential artists and doing everything I can to maintain the integrity of microblading as a craft, since like I said previously, there are a handful of artists out there that sadly compromise that. I have been in this business for 5 years now and at this point, about half of my clientele are women that went to another artist and had a bad experience. Correcting previous work is not always possible so that’s why it is imperative to do your research on microblading and choose an artist whose style you LOVE!
I am very personal and open with my clients which I believe sets me apart from others. Most of my clients that walk through the door become a friend! I’ve always been a people person, so meeting new people and getting to know them while also enhancing their eyebrows is like a dream for me. Open communication with a service like microblading is very important to me, so clients can always reach me via text or phone call anytime with a question or concern.
I am extremely proud of the business that I have built and the following that I’ve grown. Every day when I head into work or answer messages, I can’t believe how happy I am to be able to call this my career! My motto is “Your Brows But Better” because I believe that everyone looks best as they naturally are. A bit of hair strokes in a sparse area of your eyebrows won’t look fake or totally change your look, it will simply enhance what is there! One day I hope to have my own storefront offering a handful of beauty services that do the same thing – enhance your natural beauty.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have suffered from endometriosis since I was a young teen. This has always impacted my ability to get up everyday and live life, however I’ve never been one to miss out. Since I have had this chronic condition for as long as I can remember, I never really gave myself the option to skip out on work or school because of it – simply because I would’ve missed every day. Over the years, my condition has gotten worse and spread more & more. The worse it gets, the tougher it is for me to do daily tasks. When I decided to go out on my own with microblading, I realized how valuable it is for me to have full control of my schedule so that I don’t spread myself too thin and I’m able to present the best version of myself.
For a long time I had no idea what was wrong with me. It wasn’t until this year I was diagnosed and began a plan of treatment. Looking back on my life and all that I have accomplished and what I’ve endured on a daily basis, it makes me incredibly proud of myself that I chose to be resilient and did not let this condition keep me down. I hope that after surgery and treatment I am able to give even more of myself to my business and my clients, with nothing in my way!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media with no paid ads or posts, just time and dedication! There are many different traits that go into a good social page and they depend on what you’re selling. For microblading, I believe that clear photos and videos of results, the process, your space and supplies are very productive posts. Clients want to know what they’re getting into and they NEED to know that you know what you’re doing! Educational posts are great for potential clients or aspiring microblading artists – it’s still a small industry so spreading the word on good products or best practices can help more people than you’d think.
My advice for those just starting to build their social media presence is to sell yourself along with your service or product. There are a million people on Instagram or TikTok selling or doing the same thing as you… So what sets you apart? Talk to your followers, be consistent with posting, and be original! That will always shine through.
