We were lucky to catch up with Sony Bruno recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sony, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I’ve always wanted a brand. Since I was little it’s been something that I’ve dream about. My love for fashion has always been something that has never changed as I aged. From hot glue to needle and thread to a sewing machine. I’ve always loved altering clothes and making them my own. The love of fashion grew on me once I hit college and my friend mckia let me use her sewing machine. It felt like things took off there. Every event I went to I felt like I had to make my own outfit. Once I arrived no one would call me by my first name it was always “BRUNO”. So I took this as another persona the confidence that “Bruno” had I wanted other to feel that. Vince the name Bruno.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Bruno. Is more than a brand it’s a feeling it’s family. Bruno started from me living my thrifted clothes and wanting to manipulate them to what I like. My brand has been drawn up for so long and Ive second guested my self on this journey so much. I thoughts on whether another brand like mine would make it. You see so many brands and I would always ask why would we need another one? But, if it wasn’t for God and my family I don’t believe that I would’ve went through with it.
What I would want people to know about Bruno is it’s more than me, It’s a family affair. Only God knows if it wasn’t for them changing schedules and moving mountains to help me I don’t know where I would be. If you see In the content on the Bruno page it’s not just random people or just people with clout. It’s my family they are the back bone that keeps me growing and keeps this brand growing
In the future, Bruno will be a great brand it’s a baby so I’m taking everything in strides. I love Everything that comes with it the struggles of staying up and getting stuff done. I’ve started even selling the clothes outside of my trunk to get the word out and I think that’s the best part. Just grinding to get the word out about my brand.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn motivation..understanding that most days you will not feel like doing anything and that’s when you to lock in on discipline and knock it out. I would Dragging my feet trying to motivate myself to do work I knew I needed to knock out. It took me a minute but once I’ve got that concept thing started to ease up.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my favorite marketing skills were having my cousins and brothers go out in my jerseys looking like a rugby team and get peoples opinions on the jersey and style.
