We were lucky to catch up with SonOfMelody recently and have shared our conversation below.
SonOfMelody , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I found out my baby girl was on the way. Each second, every doubt I had got smaller in my rear view. I knew that in order for me to really commit, I needed to see some sort of return. When I really got serious, I found that it would enable me to provide, while also being creative and continuing to heal through my music. I seen that stepping into a more professional level of music would put me into a better position to contribute to my family tree and strengthen my foundation.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
First, I wanna say I appreciate everybody who’s reading this. My name is SonOfMelody and I aspire to inspire. I’m a creative artist/producer/writer whose expressing his experiences in hopes it will motivate. I was introduced to music by the culture of my family. My grandmother, mother, father, uncle, cousins all were creative people. So music has always had a special place in my heart. I started off producing tracks for local artists and by doing that, doors to a bigger network began to open for me. I obtained chances to work with some pretty big names and the listeners showed interest in my story. I also became more knowledgeable on anything pertaining to my craft, and that gave me all the tools I needed to achieve any goal I wanted to reach. Those tools also help me express my creative vision and help other artists reach common goals. I actually enrolled into a school of the arts to gain more insight on how to engineer music. I began to understand even more that there was a literal science to the melodies. Knowing all of this allowed me to bring a wide range of skill to the table my team sat at. I’m thankful that I can represent my brand and city in a way that is true to the things I believe in and relate to those who feel the same.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes! There’s a book written by Neil Degrasse Tyson called ” Astrophysics For People In a Hurry ” I read a ton of information on space, but I respect the way he explained great wonders in a way that a newcomer could easily digest. I could go all day on what I believe, what I think, and try to give you the best narrative I can.. But my advice to anybody who is interested is to do your homework on the subject. Pick up a telescope and actually look. When I seen Sirius for the first time through a powerful telescope, it was one of the prettiest blues I had even seen. As artists, we find ways to motivate and inspire our creativity. Stargazing is one of my most powerful ways. The ideas come raining down. I feel like it’s me giving my listeners messages from the stars. I can translate the joy I get from looking way out into lyrics and melodies that just can soothe the soul.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Well I think that everybody COULD be creative, IF they wanted to. But not everybody wants that or feels the need to try. Everybody has different passions, and that’s fine. I support being different. Because if everybody was the same, society would be extremely bland. So I encourage people to be themselves and don’t look down on anybody’s passion. I’ve seen people’s aspirations get shattered just because they didn’t have access to like-minded people. Like if Susan has the goal to climb the ladder in the law firm she works for, her risks she’s willing to take might not be the same as my risks. Her efforts will be different. But I wouldn’t dare try to discredit her and compromise her place in society just because she’s not at my studio sessions. Or she’s not part of my camera team. Or she’s not helping my fashion designer. No, I’m happy for Susan and I hope she experiences all the great things life has to offer to her…. Like my new single that’ll be dropping soon LOL.
