We recently connected with Sonny Faraimo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonny , thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I first learned playing football from my dad along with all the coaches I’ve had from 6U-8U. Knowing what I’m starting to learn now, football is a game of inches & about perfecting your craft & the position you play down to a tee. I wouldn’t want to rush that process at all. The most essential skill to me is to be coachable & allow your coaches to be able to mold you into what they need you to be for the benefit of the team. An obstacle that tends to get in my way is getting in my head about a mistake or any short comings I have in a big game. As a competitive player, you have to be able to get out of your head & get back into a headspace where you can be an asset to your team & not a liability. Mistakes can be turned into lessons learned
Sonny , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who don’t know who I am, my name is Sonny Isaia Faraimo. I am 9years old & I am an athlete who aspires to obtain a scholarship & play at the collegiate level. I work hard in the classroom & on the football field. My parents teach me about hard work ethic & where that can take me in life. My dad & family on both sides have laid out the blueprint on what success looks like & I intend on making my own mark
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I lesson I had to unlearn was being able to push through mistakes. I tend to be very hard on myself & shutdown when I make a mistake on the field or not playing to my fullest potential. I am learning to now become stronger mentally so I am able to perform & play better
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first started playing tackle football at 6yrs old, I was a must play player. At that time I didn’t know what a must play player meant until the following year. Once I learned the meaning, it made me want to work harder so I can be a starter. I put the work in by going to extra trainings on my off time & doing 2 a day workouts along with speed training. Fast forward to 8U, I became a starter on both sides of the ball.
