We recently connected with Sonia Medrano and have shared our conversation below.
Sonia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with something countless entrepreneurs have had to figure out on the fly – how have you dealt with the rise of remote work?
Yes, our team is able to work remotely, and we have successfully implemented strategies to make it work efficiently.
To ensure productivity and seamless collaboration, we leverage technology such as project management tools, virtual meetings, and clear communication protocols. Establishing accountability structures and setting clear expectations have been key factors in maintaining high performance.
Challenges:
Some pitfalls include maintaining team cohesion, managing different time zones, and ensuring that remote team members feel engaged. To mitigate these, we prioritize regular check-ins, virtual team-building activities, and clear performance tracking.
Non-obvious benefits:
Remote work has expanded our talent pool beyond geographical limitations, increased team flexibility, and improved work-life balance, leading to higher overall satisfaction and efficiency. Additionally, reducing overhead costs has allowed us to allocate more resources to business growth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building strong, authentic relationships through networking and word of mouth. In the real estate industry, trust is everything, and people prefer to work with individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also genuinely care about their success. Here are some key strategies that have worked for me:
1. Networking with the Right People: I prioritize connecting with like-minded professionals—whether they’re investors, developers, or contractors—who share similar goals and values. By attending exclusive events, joining relevant business groups, and leveraging personal connections, I’ve been able to establish a solid network that refers me to new clients.
2. Offering Value First: Instead of leading with a sales pitch, I focus on offering value upfront. Whether through providing helpful resources, offering free advice, or sharing insights about the market, I’ve built trust with potential clients who appreciate my expertise and willingness to help. This has led to strong referrals and repeat business.
3. Word of Mouth and Testimonials: I’ve found that positive experiences lead to word-of-mouth referrals, which is one of the most powerful tools for growing clientele. I’ve worked hard to deliver exceptional results for my clients, which has led to them recommending my services to others. Additionally, showcasing testimonials and success stories helps build social proof and attracts new clients.
4. Exclusive Opportunities: By offering exclusive off-market deals and high-return investment opportunities, I’ve created a reputation for bringing unique value to my clients. People want access to things they can’t get elsewhere, and providing these opportunities has helped me attract a loyal and growing clientele.
5. Consistent Communication and Follow-Ups: I stay in touch with past clients through regular check-ins, email newsletters, and updates on market trends or new opportunities. This keeps me top of mind and encourages clients to come back for future projects. Building lasting relationships ensures they not only return but also refer others to my business.
6. Being Visible in the Market: Whether it’s through social media, being featured, or receiving recognition for my community work, visibility has been key. When people see your success and hear your name frequently, they’re more likely to reach out.
By combining these strategies, I’ve been able to grow my clientele steadily and sustainably while building strong, lasting relationships that create mutual success.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A valuable lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that everything had to be perfect for success. Early in my career, especially in real estate, I thought that everything whether it was a deal, a project, or a business decision had to be flawless before moving forward. I believed that if I made a mistake, I would fail, so I spent a lot of time overthinking, planning too much, and second-guessing my choices.
The turning point came when I was working on a project that seemed to have everything going for it, the location was great, the financing was secured, and the plan was solid. But as I got deeper into the process, things started going wrong, unexpected costs, and market changes. The idea of “perfection” started to feel overwhelming. I realized that trying to be perfect was causing me to miss opportunities, slow down progress, and increase stress unnecessarily.
I learned that it’s more important to keep moving forward than to make everything perfect. In real estate, and in life, things are never going to go exactly as planned, and trying to make everything perfect often leads to doing nothing. I had to accept that mistakes and imperfections are part of the Journey what matters is learning from them and moving ahead. This change in mindset allowed me to take more risks, make quicker decisions, and grab opportunities I might have hesitated to take before.
Since unlearning this lesson, I’ve become more comfortable with the idea of “failing forward”. Now, instead of waiting for everything to be perfect, I take action, adjust as needed, and continue to learn and grow from each experience.
