We recently connected with Solomon R. and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Solomon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
My career literally happened by accident. I created a Twitter page where I talked about the real housewives I was obsessed with. and I grew the page to about 50,000 followers after I grew my page I decided to start a career in social media management from there I started learning about tools like CRM, bookkeeping, and I developed a killer networking formula. I wish I could say “OMG it was so easy and I was super successful at all of it”. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all. I struggled for 3 years barely getting clients, allowing my fears to take my dreams away from me until I discovered meditation and was able to utilize it to figure out why I was failing so horribly.
I was finally given my big break and was given the opportunity to travel and help freelancers, and even big name brands like Walgreens, rue21, and several clothing boutiques. Which gave me the leverage and attention I needed to really make a name for myself. After utilizing and perfecting my craft as a Social media manager I was given the opportunity to go to real estate school and start selling homes a week after I graduated, which led to me doing credit repair. Now I work for one of the best credit repair companies in the country, I sell homes as a realtor, and I own my own social media management company.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a child abuse survivor it’s something that I recently had to come to terms with and it took me years to say it out loud. For years I endured physical abuse being beaten with metal belt buckles, enduring verbal abuse, and horrible cognitive abuse as well. I thought I was a worthless nobody because that’s what I had been trained to think. The reason I say this is because it’s the reason and cause of my success today. Without it, I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be this person. Not to mention it gave me a fabulous story to tell.
I grew up in the small town 0f Hope Arkansas which is where I found my identity and left my mark. In high school I was very active I was the first male cheerleader at my high school and ushered in males to try out every year after me. I was also student class president, and I was obsessed with the Key club.
Growing up in Hope Ar. was hard because I always had big dreams but was constantly being put into boxes that I had to break down to become the person that I always wanted to be. One of the biggest activities in town was the church. The church is a big part of everyone’s lives. I was in church every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday we would start at 7 am and we wouldn’t be back home until about 11 pm so it was an all-day event.
Although the church was so big in our lives it’s one thing that nobody ever talked about and that was financial literacy. I eventually found out that nobody talked about it because nobody understood it. That’s when my dream started to take form. I knew that I wanted my endgame to be real estate and financial literacy. Once I graduated with my degree in Public Relations and went to real estate school. That was my chance to finally start my business.
Although I created my foundation and got myself to this point I did have support to help me establish everything the way I wanted to and it came from Chastin J miles. One of the best serial entrepreneurs in the south. He saw my potential and now we are partners and it was the best decision I ever made.
When it comes to what sets me apart it’s simple really. My clients come to me for more than just credit repair. They come to me for understanding. They come to me when they want to create another stream of income, or to understand how business credit works, and a lot of them just allow me to establish it for them, They also come to me when they have businesses already and want to know how to leverage social media to their advantage. So on the outside, it may look like just another credit repair company however I’m partnered with experts that can drive my clients to success and to get to the next level whatever that level looks like to them.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I was very fortunate to have connections that can give me guidance. So I actually found a scholarship program thanks to one of my business partners and they actually paid for real estate school and my national and state test. After I got out of real estate I sold my first property and that actually gave me the capital I needed to start my business.
That’s why networking is so important because you can literally meet anybody that will see your potential and be willing to take a chance on you.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Talking myself out of opportunities that can provide growth.
By going to therapy I was able to understand that the reason I was talking myself out of opportunities was that I was looking at myself as insignificant due to the trauma of my abusive childhood. Therapy taught me techniques to use that would help me see my value.
