Sofiya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a yoga/meditation and mindfulness instructor, trauma and resilience life coach and poet. I strive to give my clients the tools that they need to grow and thrive in every aspect of their lives. I specialize in seeing the big picture and in connecting the pieces in order to help those I work with see the whole. It is my intention to facilitate healing experiences for my clients where they can connect with their inner voices and make space for the expressions and manifestations of their dreams and soul purpose in life.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
While I believe that meaningful and effective training and the acquisition of knowledge are essential to achieving success in the helping professions, I also believe that intuition is vital when it comes to working with people and connecting. Intuition is even more powerful when coupled with the ability to truly listen and empathize with another. If you cannot actively listen, it is very difficult to truly connect with people. By listening to things that are said as well as to the things that are unsaid but displayed in body language, expressions, etc, a coach is able to get a deep understanding of their client as well as the best and most effective strategies and techniques that can be used in order to assist the client in meeting their goals. Heeding your intuition and deep, active listening makes all the difference when working with clients and it is one of the major components of a meaningful and purposeful relationship between client and coach.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I absolutely would choose the same profession! I truly feel that this is the work that I am meant to do in this lifetime. This profession allows me to use my skills, talents and passions in order to help guide others. It is deeply fulfilling to see a client evolve and grow and make powerful changes in their lives. Working with clients makes it possible for me to live my soul purpose of helping, guiding and facilitating healing and growth and it is a true honor and privilege to have the opportunity to do the work that I do.
