We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sofiia Mazur. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sofiia below.
Sofiia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
If I could change one thing about the education system, it would be how we prepare professionals for their actual careers – especially in the beauty industry. As a nail technician and educator, I’ve seen firsthand how much the current system overlooks when it comes to real-world skills and foundational knowledge!
When I first came to the US, I was surprised to see how many new nail techs were graduating without even a basic understanding of nail anatomy. To me, that’s like a surgeon not knowing the parts of the body, or a lawyer not being taught the law. Nail anatomy, product chemistry, safety – these are not “extras,” – they’re the core. But they’re often rushed through or skipped entirely in many standard programs!
That’s one of the reasons I became an educator. I believe we can raise the standards without making things harder – just more meaningful. I want to help nail techs feel confident not only in their technique, but in understanding the why behind what they do. Because that’s what leads to safer work, better results, and a more fulfilling career.
I’m passionate about being part of that change – helping build a new generation of skilled, educated, and empowered nail professionals who feel proud of their craft and prepared for the real world!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Sofi – a licensed nail technician, educator, and championship judge specializing in e-file dry manicure and structured gel application! I started doing nails at 14, after a negative salon experience made me realize how important it is to feel safe, seen, and confident during your appointment. That experience pushed me to master non-damaging techniques and help others feel their best.
Now, I run Sova Nails Studio in Scottsdale, Arizona, and teach both in-person and online. I also educate at major US expos and train nail techs across the country. My focus is on nail health, precision, and building a strong foundation in anatomy and safety – areas often overlooked in traditional US nail education. That’s the gap I’m working to fill!
What sets me apart is my deep knowledge, international experience, and my mission to raise the standards of the nail industry in a kind and empowering way. I’m most proud of seeing my students grow confident, charge what they’re worth, and love what they do.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started creating content when I was 15, and over time I learned that building a strong social media presence isn’t about chasing followers – it’s about consistency, connection, and value.
If you’re just starting out, focus on showing up regularly and sharing content that actually helps or inspires your audience. Whether you’re educating, entertaining, or simply sharing your work, think about what your audience needs – not just what you want to post!
Pay attention to what people respond to, and use that as your guide. Engagement matters more than perfect visuals, and authenticity will always perform better than trying to copy trends. Also, don’t just post – connect.
Respond to comments, talk to your audience, and build relationships. Social media is an incredible platform to position yourself as an expert, build trust, and attract real opportunities. That’s how I got my first brand collaborations as a teen – not from going viral, but from being active, consistent, and focused on value!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the biggest tests of my resilience was moving countries – not once, but twice. I was born in Ukraine, then moved to Canada, and eventually to the U.S. Each move meant starting from scratch: new language, new culture, no community, and often no clear path forward. I had to rebuild my life, my career, and my confidence over and over again. Every time I moved, I had to adapt not just personally, but professionally – adjusting to different industry standards, relearning licensing systems, and proving myself in places where no one knew my name!
But every challenge pushed me to grow. It taught me how to stay focused on my goals, even when the environment around me was unfamiliar or unpredictable! I carried my passion for nails and education with me through every transition, and over time, I built something strong and meaningful in each new place. That experience made me who I am today – not just as a nail tech, but as a business owner, educator, and someone who truly understands what it means to keep going, no matter what.
