We recently connected with Sofia Silva and have shared our conversation below.
Sofia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Jewelry has always been a passion of mine but, I often found that there were not many inclusive options that fit everyone or went with everyone’s style. That is when I started Weld & Wear – Permanent Jewelry, to be able to custom fit any type of jewelry to suit my client! I now carry over 70+ high quality chains and nearly 1,000 different charms. Every piece is completely unique and made to fit exactly how you would like. I also offer clasps for those that cannot make the long term commitment or would like to purchase my jewelry for someone else. I am also launching a hand made line of jewelry, a crystal line of jewelry, and custom engraving, so that I can be even more inclusive!
Sofia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Apart from traveling all throughout New Jersey to do pop ups at fairs, I offer private parties in your own home, one on one appointments in my home studio, one on one classes, and more! I love doing bridal showers, bachelorettes, birthday parties, communions, corporate events, you name it!
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I saved $5,000 and I just went for it! I used every last penny and some credit cards to purchase my welding machine. I quickly found some events and I have not looked back since! I was able to quit my job after one month and now do this full time and I LOVE IT. I have absolutely no regrets and wish I did it sooner.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
It was very stressful at first going into the unknown. I had no idea if I would be successful and I had used all my savings. To make matters worse I had a family emergency that same week and I had thoughts of selling my welding machine before I did my first event— how wrong would I have been!
