We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sofía Iglesias . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sofía below.
Sofía , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
My first dollar besides chores was a pillow/blanket commercial. I auditioned and they chose me to be one of the girls enjoying this pillow. I didn’t think I would get it due to the fact I had gotten braces a few months before. When I did I was thrilled not just for the money but the experience. I learned to have patience especially when it comes to any type of filming, the amount of times you have to re record things it’s crazy. But it’s all worth it in the end. I received my paycheck and with that I got a new phone. I put part of the money into my phone which is why I value my phone so much. Because I payed for it. When you receive money for your hard work there’s a joy. It’s unexplainable. Every time I now buy something myself I value it, and care for it. When you do these things for the first time it makes you realize how hard people work especially actors.
Sofía , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For starters I am 13 years old. I got into the industry when I was about 11. It’s funny how I got in, it was due to my acting summer camp and my sister. My sister Sarah was chosen by one of the directors who wanted to create a short film. I went to the set and it was the best thing ever. I was there for a long time, it took days. They recommended an industry called “Stellar Talent Agency” . My mom Gaby signed us up and we got in. From there my career begun. I had to take lots of pictures, do lots of auditions, and it took a long time. From those pictures I got chosen to do my first short film. I was thrilled. The experience was unbelievable so was the time. When it comes to acting you all ways need to be patient. I then auditioned for a commercial with the hospital. I forgot to mention I am a dancer. I’ve danced for almost 3 years now. I love it. It’s my passion it helps to express my body, soul, and mind. Before dance I did competitive gymnastics for about 7 years. I knew I wanted to stop when my love for it has wasn’t there. So I tried dance and i knew it was my thing. Anyways the hospital commercial required to me dancing in it and it felt so good everyone hyping me up and telling me how great I am. They did my hair, makeup, and picked out my clothes I felt special. It was feeling that I didn’t want to go away. Somewhere in between I did another commercial for blankets/pillows. Now let’s talk about myself. I’m about to go to high school, in a couple months I will get my braces off and get even more commercials. I can’t wait for these new experiences. It’s a little scary especially when there’s a lot of people watching but it will all be worth it in the end . I never thought acting would become such a big part in my life. Until it did and it’s something I am truly grateful for. I wouldn’t have this life without my parents and there support with everything. I will love them always and forever.
How did you build your audience on social media?
To start off i started with the trendy app we now call tiktok. I did it for fun, making funny and attractive videos to gain lots of views and followers. Met a lot of mutuals from the friends i have today. I think tiktok is one of the biggest apps nowadays especially for teens my age. It’s a great app to introduce or show off your businesses or new products. I’ve seen multiple ads and they’ve lead me to buy some products from their businesses. I never really used tiktok to for ads or anything like that. I however do it for my dance. They all love dancing videos especially when your good at it. I’ve never gotten fully viral only a little up to 800 likes. I will continue to make these videos until i do get viral and keep up with these new attractive trends.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
one of the best things in modern day is most definitely social media. Social media has made many people famous. And gave them lots of fame. Posting famous artists will help them grow more popularity. like I said before TikTok is a huge platform and posts lots of celebrities by making edits of them or even posting interviews. Instagram is another big thing. Whenever i see someone famous I like, I will re-post them on my story. With that being said those who view my story will go to their post and either like comment or even follow based on the things they see. I personally think social media is the best way to support artists and help many businesses. It will help thrive the creative ecosystem we now have today. there is also Facebook and Twitter but those aren’t as common as TikTok or Instagram. another big one I would say Snapchat. We use it to communicate with our mutual‘s or friends. Sometimes even post on our stories about the artist we like. This is something we can do as a community to help bring celebrities up and thrive.
