We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sofia Gillani. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sofia below.
Sofia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always been a loud person, so I wanted to be able to channel that energy and a creative spirit – and since my dad was also a musician, music naturally came into my life. It is through gradually navigating the music industry with the support of my team and organically progressing as a musical presence that I was able to pursue a passion of being able to contribute to music as the experimental ‘Sofia Gillani’. I like being able to explore the boundaries of music – and ultimately, I looked to music as a form of expression. And now, music is such a part of my character that my professional path is also a part of me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a singer songwriter originating from London, releasing music in a variety of genres including pop, R&B, rock, etc. I have released 12 singles, available to stream on all listening platforms, but ultimately, my music is a safe space. For all kinds of people, I want my music to resonate as it is derived from personal experiences – and whether you need to laugh or cry, this young and new indie avant-garde pop artist wants her music to contribute – whether it is to the memories you make, or a vibe you need. My sound is never the same, so there is always something new on the horizon with Sofia Gillani. To stay updated on my musical career – I’m on most social medias as Sofia Gillani, and on Instagram as sofia.aneesa.gillani.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Creating music is a part of my life, and to share that with others is such a blessing – I am already so grateful for the fanbase that still continues to grow every day, and the messages from people appreciating the sounds I produce. Ultimately, I do not do music for ay kind of fame, but to give a young human voice to the music industry as I write all my songs myself from my experiences and emotions. It is the combined effort of the flourishing support I receive and the need as a creative spirit to produce that has led me to explore myself in such a diverse music industry and motivate my creative journey.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Not necessarily resources, as I record from home, but the enlightenment of knowing that in music, no one will be able to do what you do, because music stems from your own life. We all have different inspirations, and we will never be exactly the same as someone else, so if your’e planning on releasing music, just do it. The beautiful thing about music is that we have nothing to lose if we are simply releasing a unique creative spirit in ourselves. That’s how genres and musical legacies are born.
