Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sofia Damianovich. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sofia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I started my creative career at 28! Looking back I wouldnt have started it sooner, there was still so much to learn from the different work enviroments at my current job. It started gradually, first as a weekend hobby and slowly building up to become my full time job; learning from my bosses and mentors and working on my craft. I believe there is no rushing the creative process, and some things need to stay a bit longer in the over in order for them to be ready :)

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Two years ago, me and my partner Lucila funded Andine Design Studio, where we combine our two passions: architecture and graphic design/illustration. We work with event planners, brides and individuals to create personalized designs for their events. In parallel we also work with brands and locations such as vineyards, to illustrate their campaigns. There is a added value to creating something bespoke in a world full of automated and identical designs and we quickly realized that the wedding industry had a lot of clients looking to add an extra touch to their special day. My main medium is watercolor, pencils and digital illustrations.
It´s been a pleasure being able to work with couples all over the world and tell their story with my illustrations, and knowing that I have added my small part to make their love grow.
We started without knowing much about either digitalizing art, printing methods and client relations but along the way we have learned a lot. One of the most important things is to understand the importance of one`s work, and not to downgrade your work. We also reached out to other creatives and asked questions. I can´t remark how important it is to ask questions when you are first starting out.
We continue to grow and, at the same time, learn how to run a studio, always seeking to establish a connection with our clients, as I believe that’s the key to success.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It took me some time to realize it, but I came to terms with my goal, and the drive behind my work when I client asked me the following question: ¿What is it that you take away from this job? ¿What aspect do you like the most?
at first it took me by surprise, since its a question more for the likes of an interview, but I quickly saw that our cliente wanted to know what was the inspiration behind our business, what was that inspired us to make our best work.
i had to think about it for a minute, but then the answer came naturally. To connect. Our goal is to connect with people through our work. To be able to recreate their stories, their loved ones or their pets in our designs, and be able to translate that love in to something tangible. We get to know our clients on a personal level and add something beautiful and meaningful to their lives.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I have been listening to some podcast about different entrepreneurs that have opened their business and choosen a different lifestyle. I can mention two of them, -Tiene que haber algo mas- Magalí Bejar
-Pasa a la acción- Sofía Contreras.
Book related I have found a big source of inspiration and motivation in the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, I believe that is a must in the library of any creative person
